Spykez are u playing in DX 10 or DX 9?
(vista or Xp)

My computer dual boots to either OS so i have tried in both. Needless to say, XP seems a whole lot better performance wise. I have a pretty stout rig to boot and Vista just isnt worht a shit with this game.

DX9 on XP, I hate vista with an undying passion and no DX10 game will justify using it.

There isn't a big difference between DX9 and DX10 in this game but it's still noticable, especially as you can toggle weather effects and shader quality to "extra" wich activates a depth of field and motion blur shader and probably a few other effects as well.

Gameplay is great and the game looks fairly good anyhow but it isn't the best looking game of 2007 for those who were expecting that.
(Still looks fairly good though but the station memory leaks that lowers texture and model quality can be a little problematic, especially with alot of people in the stations as that toggles the bug faster. - Might be fixed by now though and is most certainly fixed in their internal version.)

The game will also have a small data update on the release day according to a interview on Shacknews.com but it should only be some smaller fixes. Smile

Didn't know they were doing a book series, I want!

books pretty good as far as stories go. People die, plot is built up, resolution handled well. Not your typical BS pulp tripe that you expect from a video game book.

No... there's more difference than that. the bump maps, lighting and textures all look different under DX10. They look better. But it isn't a big enough improvement to warrant the huge performance hit between it and DX9 that's for sure.

I may give it another go on DX 10 if they claim more optimisation down the road.

Ill try to post some later. ill need to reinstall it on my secondary OS again.

My rig:
E6600 CPU OC'd to 3.5 ghz
2 gigs of corsair dominator ram at 1066 mhz
8800 GTX graphics card
24 inch wide screen monitor (1920 x 1200 res)

On DX9 I average 59+ frames per second in towns. In the instanced adventure areas, I average 70+.

On DX10, I was getting 12 fps in towns and around 20 in the adventure areas.

Now, I havent tried it since the last patch. Could have improved, but i don;t think ti would still be a big enough improvement to match my DX 9 play.

Yes it is.

AHA ! but its instanced so you are not playing with hundreds of thousands of players but only with the handfull of players that share the same instance that you are on.

So what? So if a game has instanced areas it isn't an MMO? It has a place for you to group up with hundreds and thousands of different people and then go into the dungeon areas.

The developers refer to it as an MMO. I don't have any problems with it.

Isn't instances the only thing it has?

You sit there in a 3d lobby, get a party, join an instance? I wouldn't consider that MMO.

MMO stands for massive multiplayer online, that's exactly what it is, I don't get why people are fighting over it. And no you don't stand in a 3d lobby, theres quests to be had, items to be bought etc. So yes it's an mmo. Just like Quake Wars is an MMOFPS, 36 isn't a lot of people, but enough, so then by some of your theory's that means when you only do an 8 person match it's not longer an MMO.

So i guess Diablo 2 is a MMO as well?

Not by the true definition of the world. However, people all seem to have their own opinions on what a MMORPG is. I however do not at all see Diablo 2 as an MMORPG - because every world is instanced with maximal 8 players on a server shard. By that logic, you could call Counterstrike an MMO as it too is played by thousands. Where do you draw the line?

I say, you draw the line at a game that is mostly instanced versus an MMORPG that isn't. But I do respect your opinion.

Games like DII and Hellgate are meant and built to be played on MP, they just add the SP for those who don't want online

Who the fuck are you and why can you play this game? And only 12-20fps instead of 60-70? Are you fucking us??? That would be the worst DX10 part ever.....

The game is still far from finished dude, it's still in beta and shouldn't even be coming out soon, it's still quite buggy.

Huge performance drop with the last couple patches in DX10
I run Vista 64 and in DX 10 its about 25-35 fps on high
