I got more and more parents that ask me about simple to use software that will let them have more control of what their kids do on the net. The latest couple wants to have the tools that will let them menage how long their kids can use the internet for. They also would like to see what they are chatting about in places like MySpace and IM. Can you recommend any all-in-one programs that would do just that for them?

good parenting skills will probably help more than any software will Wink

I know, kind of a smart ass reply no matter how true it is. In any case, I doubt there is a freeware type program to do this, I'm sure any of the commercial programs (Net Nanny etc) would suffice for the simple kinds of things like limiting time/downloads etc.

I'm looking for something that not only can be run and maintained locally, but is easy enough for a parent with minimal pc skills to use.

I looked at the Net Nanny website. Looks promising and will give it a try.

Meanwhile I would like to hear about any possible alternatives.
