I've got windows xp x64, can i upgrade/switch to vista 64 with out having to reinstall everything? if so which version should i get?

You can. But you shouldn't. A clean install is HIGHLY recommended. And I recommend Vista 64-bit Ultimate. You can find this on the WinBeta rls if you search around(has all 32 and 64 bit ver). And go to keznews or search around here about recommended ways to activate and so on.

i havnt got a dvd burner yet, just a cd burner... is there a way to change the image so i can put it only multiple cds?

Afair there was a Vista release on CD over MSDN, it used to take 5 CD. I have no clue how to split your DVD image to do so. Better try to burn it from a friend of you, it will save you time...
