My sister bought a laptop and I want to connect it to my pc to transfer some files and maybe even the printer and off course play some games Very Happy Both have winXP(mine has home, hers media cented edition).
I connected both with the proper cable and tried to configure a connection but nothing.. already disabled windows firewall on her laptop and disabled my firewall as well.
Some time ago I disabled some "unecessary" windows processes in my pc and I think some of them might be needed now to connect both computers.. but I'm not sure which ones, I can try enabling them all again though.
I already looked for it in google and tried some stuff but didn't work Razz

Shouldn't really be that difficult. Just give them the same subnet mask and a different IP. If you have internet connection sharing enabled, but the desktop IP as the default gateway of the laptop.

Go to Start->Programs->Accessories->Communications->Network Connections.
Double click your connection.
Click Properties. Make sure every checkbox is selected here. Click on "Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)" (Click on the text, not the check box). Click properties.
Select "Use the following IP adress" and type in 166.166.0.1 on one of your computers, and type 166.166.0.2 on the other one. Click on the subnet mask field and it should be filled automatically. Click OK, and click OK to close the properties.

If it doesn't work open up windows explorer, go tools->folder options and under View make sure that "Use simple file sharing" is turned on.

And be sure that you have crossover cable... I tried to connect two comps with regular transfer cable and it didn't work...

It is usually printed on the cable, but you can shoot the pics of the ends where the little wires are...
