Do you think this card is enough to play crysis in vista smoothly?
Or should i save and buy a ultra or gtx, or maybe hold of upgrading until the next cards come out?
Mmm decisions Arrgh |
8800 GT is coming out today. almost as fast as a GTX, faster than a GTS with 640mb, costs only 250$.
Two of them in SLI should be able to handle crysis on high or even very high just fine, depending on the resolution. buying an 8800GTS or GTX now is a bad idea with the GT out.

I can barely wait for my 8800GT, goddamn.. |
Radeon X1950GT
It was all I could afford at the moment.
Next year I'll have enough to put together a nice gaming machine.
Will this card change my screens to look like "the current times"...?
I'm thinking that 850XT that I have is the problem. It doesn't support the
effects to make the game look good. The game is playable but it's missing that
certain feel. |
yeah with that card you should be able to run it on medium on relatively low resolutions and it'll look good enough. still, it's a pretty old card so don't expect too much. crysis brings even the latest high-end GPUs to their knees. |
That's all I was hoping for. Something to get me by until I can put enough together to get a decent machine. I haven't been in PC Gaming for at least 2yrs. I've been playing console games. So I've not had the need to upgrade.

My 320mb 8800GTS is staying faithful to me. Must be the best £160 i ever spent. Im going to buy a 1GB kit of RAM upgrade on Wednesday, hopefully boost my speed a little since i only have 1gB atm. Then next year hopefully i will buy a new processor when my 1.8ghz c2d is not doing too well.
Hell, im the kinda guy that doesnt mind playing on just "high" settings and not very high. The game is great, and the graphics look amazing enough as they are for me.

Meaning that there is no 9800 GTX coming out anytime soon. Most of the stats on that card were considered fake. Also there are no solid references that it will be coming out at all.

Ahh, yea ok, exactly
Oh, no, I did not mean to be sarcastic, I only agreed with your statement.
The 9800 will probably come in May-July 2008 or something.
January would be wishful thinking...to bad as I am getting a new CPU (thinking Q9550 or Q9450) and Mobo most likely. I am hoping that EVGA will launch their 790i sometime in Jan-Feb. Would be perfect timing if NV would release the 9800 then...but as I said, wishful thinking.

_Sin_ : hell, i want smooth DX10 play, not ancient DX9, GT is just old revamp shite wanna like GTX, i want something twice faster, at least like 8800Ultra in SLI, since GTX/GT/Ultra is old same one year old shit.
And even Crysis DX9 at 1680x1050, thats fps are laughable.

dude, dont talk bs.. the 8800GT is a well payable card wich is almost as fast as the GTX wich costs €250 less. And the 9800 is just a rumour..it won't be out untill next year somewhere.. so for everybody who wants to upgrade their system the 8800 will rock!.

chiv wrote: | actually the more i look at it, the high end shit looks quite nice, almost perfect. a page or two back i posted a direct comparison shot... the HIGH END shit looks noticably different.. everything is softer, theres a sort of beautiful haze over long distances, and everything looks more integrated into the world rather than being quite high contrast'y, like you see on the traditional high setting.
one thing that STILL bugs me is that the trees always look like theres some sort of graphical corruption happening because the leaves n twigs n shit are aliased... it always looks like a fine lot of individual solid white pixels spattered over them (when your looking through thick foliage at the sky)... i think ultimately thats the only thing im seeing that i think takes away a bit of the beauty of it... dont get me wrong, the game looks great regardless and i know AA'ing all the foliage would kill the game, its just that seeing everything else look so nice and then seeing high contrast solid pixels in the trees is a bit of an eye sore.
and does anyone else thing that the fsaa used in the game is kinda flawed? it eats the fps like crazy (to be expected) but you still see quite a few obviously aliased edges... yeah this is a small thing, but i think its fair to point it out, because the game IS trying to be nextgen, and IS a huge system hog as it is.. i wouldnt expect shit like fsaa not to go all the way when you take all that shit into account...
i allready know that this game is going to require a few patchs after retail, which is fine i guess - hopefully they'll sort out a lot of the low fps issues, and maybe fix the issue with the fsaa (or hopefully nvidia will figure something out if its a driver issue) - i just hope we dont end up seeing 5-600 mb sized patches!!
edit: heres the comparison i did a few pages ago - you can see a really nice haze over the background, making the trees look a lot more natural and integrated into the gameworld... the water is now 3d, the ground has better (enhanced?) bump mapping... longer draw distance... overall you cant tell me it doesnt look noticably better. is it worth the lost fps? no its not, but if i could play at this setting at 35-45 fps, vs playing at the traditional high @ 55-60 fps, id rather pick the ultra high settings.
|
Yeah, you are right.
The difference between Medium and High is not so big as the difference High/Very High.

Start reading up before you talk smack, the GT still holds up under DX10.

if you can wait, then wait until mid-november.
we'll have the final version of crysis for benchmarking, we'll have the remake of the 8800 GTS as well as ATI's new cards.
So mid november is when you'll have all the information you need to make a proper decision.
If you can't wait that long then the 8800 GT is absolutely awesome for the cost, and eventhough the 8800 GTS remake will definitely be faster, it'll also cost about 100$ more.
Plus there's pretty much no information on how ATI's new cards will perform. So waiting for that is also not a bad idea.
