Quote: | But, regardless of this, there are two important points to take away from this article. Firstly, to enjoy the Crysis single-player demo in its full glory on NVIDIA's GeForce 8 hardware, you'll need to either drop to an older driver version than the ForceWare 169.0x releases, or rename the crysis.exe in your game folder to something else (not the name of another game) to remove the offending broken optimisation, and thus allow in-game water reflections to be rendered correctly. Secondly, if you've read any reviews of NVIDIA graphics boards using this combination of driver release and the Crysis single-player demo, you should be aware that any performance metrics shown are quite likely to be inaccurate and slightly inflated. |
Interesting Article. An older driver gives better eye-candy..?
I'll have to try this on my new setup, which is due to arrive today.
Quote: | In closing, let's hope that NVIDIA can fix this issue promptly before the full game hits retail shelves, to allow their users to enjoy this fabulous looking game in all its graphical glory, reflections and all. |

I'd rather have more FPS than accurate water reflections.
There are some reflections either way, and I don't really care of they're accurate or not.
It's not like I'll watch the water and try to find out if everything is reflecting correctly.
Any reflections are fine and if I hadn't read that news article I wouldn't have noticed there's something wrong.

That is old news, it has been fixed already in the latest beta driver.

I'm not surprised.
There are so many articles on Crysis floating around.
I was Googling the DX10 vs DX 9 and found stuff that goes back to
2005
Everyone in these articles has there own opinion.

Here is a new map. The whole island is covered in ice as well, but it's different.
The map is called ICESIS.

lol! yes! if you got a pc that can handle it, sure, but I don't think such a thing exists.
you can map a map and put enemies and structures wherever you like just like in any other map editor.

Most stores here list it as available on the 15th and originally that was also the date available on EA store but I heard US customers get it on the 14th whereas as you say a few other sites mention the 16th.
(In any regards it will ship next week so I'm sure it will be available soon.)
EDIT: My account details list a unlock code, those aren't added with pre-loaded files are they?

direct from the EA crysis website:
Crysis is Gold! The Countdown Ends 11.16.07
(and as far as i can see, thats the official .com site, not a regional one just for my country)
on the USA purchase site, all i see is:
Offer expires November 13, 2007. Good only for new purchases of "Crysis". Valid only at the EA Store at www.eastore.ea.com. All items delivered electronically. Digital Art Asset Disk, downloadable vehicle, wallpapers, and Prima eGuide will not be available for download until November 14, 2007. Redemption code for Prima eGuide must be redeemed by December 15, 2007.
nothing there says the game will be unlocked before the 16th. there is reference to when the 'nanopack' offer expires, reference to when you can download the prima guide, and the end date for using the redemption code...
doesnt matter really, just curious given how many release dates are floating around... for me, my copy arrives next friday
just let us know when you can unlock it... and also how smoothly it goes... im sure loads of people will probably try unlocking at midnight and there will be all sorts of fun problems to look forward too!

so i guess that means people who preorder get screwed, people who ordered online get screwed, and those who drunkenly stumble into a gameshop on the 14th might hit the jackpot

oh we'll get loads of people coming in going WHERE IS THE GAME RELEASE etc, whining about how the groups havent released it the second it hit retail, then the following day those same people will come back saying how much it sucks... well yeah it would.. on a 1.7ghz machine with a 2 year old ati card
ultimately what will make or break the game for me, will be the story and the immersiveness... cod4 was awesome because you gave a shit about the characters around you, and you felt like you were in a life and death huge, epic, and important situation...
if crysis pulls together a similarily broad reaching and epic story, and we continue to see the character interation/immersiveness we saw in the demo... holy shit, combine that with the visuals and the 'go anywhere, complete missions however you chose' open-ended sandbox PLAYGROUND of an environment... ah shit man, i dont believe anyone can count this game out yet... what weve seen is the package that the game is wrapped up in, and it is GOOD.. if the heart of it impresses, this could in all likelyhood be goty material.
crytek learned a lot from far cry... im sure theyre aiming much much higher this time, to create a complete and amazing game, not just a tech demo.

Oh I hope you're right. Just I'm not wanting to hype the game up myself too much..it's so easy when yuo see the screens. I do hope they can make the story hold together, what I feel from the demo it'll either be good and the immersivness will be picked..or they'll drop the ball and won't be able to stich the story together. I'm a little worried though, those monkeys in Far Cry sucked...and now we're dealing with aliens, I hope they won't end this in a anticlimax..it is so easy to go overboard when dealing with unnatural things (Half-life 1 for example). And to be fair, the story in Far Cry wasn't really any good...so they have a lot to prove when writing a good story, maybe this will be it...or it won't...well see

Those that pre ordered from EA store will get it on the 14th, a EA rep said it in a thread on the official forum.
Also, the countdown is shown after you preload crysis on ea downloader, saying that it will unlock in 4 days and 5 hours.
