So um.. if I make a map with the sandbox editor, can I play it without any screwin around in the final version? Can I continue to make the map in the editor of the final version of the game?
I'm just wondering if it's ok starting to make a map now, or just wait for the final to come out and start then.

it's really quite amazing that you can modify settings in the editor to make the game look so different.

Read the topic. He writes that the game runs at 6-8 fps on his computer with these graphics. Nearly nobody has a rig powerful enough to play this game fluid at full settings.

I believe the Crysis DEMO doesn't support SLI, the full game does, so you should see better fps

Can only agree with you. First time I've ever been really excited about modding.
I've never modded anything before, but last night I sat down with the editor for a few hours (the hours just flew away, it was so fun) and I've never modded any game or played with any editors for games, but this editor is amazingly easy to use and understand, and after having read the guide posted a while back in this thread, I found it even more fun.
It seems like a great tool, and even I could use it to create a realistically looking island. Was loads of fun. |
yeah the editor here is really good.
in other games the editors are very similar to a 3d program like 3dstudiomax where you have to create complex geometry to accomplish anything and it gets very confusing unless you're used to it.
the sandbox editor is so easy because you basicaly *paint* the terrain and then place stuff. but while it's easy to learn it's also hard to master and has a lot of potential.
overall it's similar to the way starcraft and warcraft 3 editors work.
easy to use for pretty much anyone but so many possibilities. I'm sure we'll see shitloads of amazing single player content for this game.
and did you know that crytek are actually supporting a few mod teams, and gave them dev kits a long time ago already? that's just really cool.
there are only a handful of good european developers, but the german crytek is really simply awesome.

Fullscreen is only accessible in-game.

But if you want to "play" it full screen, the steps are slightly different:
1) Decompress the "seith_island.zip" file into your "/Crysis SP Demo/Game" directory.
2) Rename your "island" directory (the official Crytek demo level) to "island_crytek".
3) Then make a duplicate of the "seith_island" directory (so you have two "seith_island" directories).
4) Rename the copy you just made to "island". The point is that the original "seith_island" folder has to remain untouched in the "Levels" directory. This is very important; if you don't do it, or just rename "seith_island" to "island", the map will be broken (no ocean visible, errors, etc...).
5) Launch the Crysis demo and start a new game. Difficulty level is utterly irrelevant.

I just hope it won't go down like Far Cry because that also had a pretty simple editor but no big projects. Actually Far Cry's 3d-engine are way underused I think...great engine, but not one game besides Far Cry using it..sad really...I thought that we'd at least see a Jurassic Park mode, or lately maybe something done with the tv serie "Lost" in its mind. Oh well, maybe we will get too see that this time? | What do you mean by saying "no big projects"? Far Cry has shitloads of big mods. Btw Jurassic Park themed mod has been released a couple of times. |
Yeah, I never tried the JP one myself, but I have played a few pretty bitchin mods. The co-op one comes first to mind, which was pretty awesome. Then there was a couple made with a matrix-type theme...on desert islands of course but there was some matrix-styled gameplay I remember. Anyways yeah, no Huge projects but there were some decent ones if you looked around.
Anyways I think Crysis will be a much more mod-friendly type game for sure because of some major differences from its predecessor. Namely the variety of environments that are available in the beginning, instead of the far cry options:-outside(desert island) or inside. But I think also the gameplay options available from having the suit abilities will open up a slew of potential from modders.

Ah I get it. By saying "big mods" he meant mods such as "Recal to Hell" and "Black mesa source". Both of them are insanely hyped, but still unreleased [and I bet will never be].
Also it will be very hard to mod for Crysis imho, because everything got more complex.

Well, mods...yes that, but if you compare to Quake 3 and Unreals engine got tons of mods. I know, those engines are older and yes, probably easier to mode too. But I also mean that other gamemakers licence and use their engine. I'm surpised we didn't see more of the Far Cry engine in other games, it was a great engine for its time and had alot of potential with the right makers. Just seem like the mod-makers and also pro-gamemakers looked past the engine....Quake 3s engine are still used and so is Unreals and that engine that FEAR uses, but no one uses the Far Cry engine. Kind of sad I think.
