every AI has weaknesses that can be easily exploited if you know what they are, that's what makes them easy to beat.
an AI will never match a player (unless it cheats a lot) so it doesn't matter too much if it's not that great.
it's good enough to be a challenge for the less skilled or less experienced players, and the more skilled and experienced players play online against other players anyway.

And BoZo_, there are a bunch of new units. I think there's 10 new units for each faction plus a whole new faction. each faction gets one new experimentals as well as some kinds of other units spread throughout the tech tree. some races got an engineering station which is a stationary engineer basically. can't start building on it's own but it supports very well. some new gunships, bombers, then some or even all, I dunno, got a Fighter/Bomber tier 2 hybrid.
UEF and maybe another race too, dunno, got a tech 3 point defense turret.


the craziest experimentals is the Aeon Paragon. takes forever to build, has only 5000 health and will cause a nuclear explosion when it's killed, but it generates unlimited ressources.
great against AI but I doubt any player would ever let you finish building that.

UEF Ravager - I love this thing. Build an array of Ravagers, protect it well against bombers/gunships and your defense is all set Very Happy

btw is http://supcom.hacked.in/ gone for good or is it being updated? Keeps telling me "Server not found"... Confused

heh yeah the tech 3 point defense is insane.
a bunch of them took out a monkeylord of mine before I even saw them.
I just thought.. what the hell was that? how can he take out my monkey lord so fast?

I think it's cool that they're balanced though. they're great against few large units, but against many normal ones they aren't that great because their rate of fire is so low and they'll often waste one salvo on an almost dead unit.

yep, an army of T3 bots/tanks protected by some mobile shield gens will prolly break through. But then again they downgraded some of the experimentals quite a bit i.e. the ML has much less hitpoints now.

The Seraphim units are brutal imo Laughing

hell yeah, they improved on the game engine alot.

with my crappy Penitum D 930 and 8600GT i used to get 10 fps on SC, but now i get 30-40fps on SC:FA with the same settings. I hope they will continue to optimize the game engine, and fix the sound issues.

So I own SC right so if I use this version and the serial in the nfo to install and then log into gpgnet with my sc user, can I then play fa online through gpgnet?

no. Forged Alliance is a standalone expansion, it doesn't require the original game so it has it's own key and all. owning SC won't help you with FA.

guys, i see something really interesing in this game. i played a bit with UEF and i built the new experimental unit (the Satellite building). i wanted to see what is it doing but i coudn't make it operational. i mean i couldn't use it. it was just .... built. nothing else. is there something special about it (expect it's experimental) ???

another thing is the L2 engineer. my UEF L2 eng could only build defensive structures. when i had a few L3 engineers i switched to L2 building and there i found some buildings i could not build with the L2 engineer (mass extractor L2, powerplant L2, the "civilian" buildings i might say). do you all have these "problems" or is it just to me???

That UEF building is just a lounch pad for satelite, look above it and you'll see it. You can then use that satelite like any normal unit. Also UEF have two T2 engineer units, I think that other one can only build turrets and is capable to attack.

Btw, why didn't they just make couple of campaign levels with skirmish AI? It is way more fun to play against it than that heavily scripted one in campaign.

For the Novax, I can't really help because I never used it, but there's a little satellite floating in the air that you can see when you're zoomed out. Select it and target stuff you want to attack.

For the T2 engineer, sounds like you've built a Sparky Field Engineer instead of a Tech 2 Engineer. See the difference? The Sparky is supposed to be used on the front to quickly build defenses and such, it has much more HP than regular engies, but less structures to build.

I love these developers, they understand that a month after release theres no use keeping protection anymore as it's only affecting legitimate customers by then.

i play a game or two every day on hamachi , there are many networks to chose from for start u can try this one

supremepro (password 123)

It gets purged every day or so, in case u find it full try to join it another day and when u finally log in you can ask others for many other networks to join

Basically this is still the only real game i play.

It requires lot of getting used to and its certainly not much user-friendly (is a lot harder than regular rts...) but is still fun after months of games Very Happy

the sp campaigns are as boring as it gets. MP was fun for a couple times over hamachi, but it never stack.


Just like everybody keeps telling me how CoH is the best rts, yet nobody plays it

FYI: You dont need hamachi to play online, atleast not with the latest patches.

well, that is not splitting. splitting means creating 2 dvd5 (or more) from which you can install the game without having to unpack the original file. so, if anyone else knows how, i'd appreciate that Very Happy. 10x

I apologize for resurrecting such an old thread, but some friends of mine and I have been craving the original Supcom (with FA in this case) recently.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any specific patches that should be applied? I have the Reloaded release as a baseline.

Also, can anyone recommend a decent map editor for this? A while back I had modified some of the base ones to support more players for example and would love to be able to get back into that. Thanks.

Supreme commander servers was turn of long time ago but now there is a alternative. I't look like more people play this then good old spring rts. I don't know is any of you know what is spring rts. ( Free open source TA clones rts engine )

There is new service http://www.faforever.com/ and they don't check CD keys Wink.
New launcher auto download maps mods ai...

Newest patch removes the protection ( i think 1.599, not sure though and you need the original exe to update)

I would also recommend installing Sorian AI, makes the AI more challenging, besides the game works very well through Hamachi/Tunngle LAN.

I tested how it works. Very nice multiplier lobby for playing Supreme Commander FA online. It's auto downloading mods AI every thing that is needed to join the game and supports ranked matches. It's also have Map Vault and Replays. It's better then tunngle / hamachi and you can play on pirated copy too.
