i dont think there are any rights to something like beowulf, considering the nature of its existence. there certainly aren't any rights to the bible.

and i would assume a game of beowulf would be made sooner or later if there was a film or not, the gaming industry is just as interested in making money as the film industry, so any idea they dont have to come up with themselves is a bonus.

the game is based on the fucking film for fucks sake. jesus.

Yes. First, there's the big-budget high-profile one which is officially licensed from and specifically based on the upcoming Robert Zemeckis movie (rather than the original lore), being developed by Ubisoft, and officially called ""Beowulf: The Game" (note the "The Game" subtitle, it's what differentiates it).

Secondly, there is the one from the developers of The Guild (it currently doesn't have a publisher) which is based on the original lore and poem (which is public domain, meaning anyone could make a game based on the original poem) and simply named "Beowulf."

The linked screenshots in the first post are from the latter game, which isn't what this thread is discussing, whereas the screenshots I linked are from the game based on the movie, which is the game this thread is talking about.

Not really. The two games are based on different very things, technically (anyone who has read Beowulf and seen the trailers for the new Beowulf movie will understand how massively different the movie is going to be from it's source material.)

I don't see your reasoning there. Really, I'm surprised there haven't been more Beowulf games before, considering what a classic the tale is.

Also, the F.E.A.R. and Farcry sequels/expansions aren't "stolen." Sierra and Ubisoft own those IPs, and it's their right to make new games based on them.

Looks like the game is out in stores as there's a patch available that fixes a problem with Vista and optimizes shader load times. Smile

I don't see it for sale anywhere...

This is actually quite astounding. These days, games are so often shipped out with bugs, and end up with patches and updates just days after release, that it's not even surprising to see a patch come out the day after a game is released.

But this has to be some kind of record. A patch released a week before the game even hits store shelves. Good grief.

if the game is "good enough" to ship when it's in Q&A the game will go gold and setup for shipment. Once this happens the crew instead of working on the full game fixing stuff they start working on the patch so it's ready as soon as the game hits the shelf.

The launch trailer is also pretty cool, nice combat moves and fatalities, looks quite brutal. Very Happy
