Fun game, great if you have an hour to kill and need a break from cod4 or the other games just released. I've tried USA and my home country Sweden. USA was really hard, since they seem to hate you to begin with. Sweden was easier, since we seem to do better.

EDIT: Second time I played as Sweden I went a little crazy and it ended in no support from religious groups and they suicide bombed the government killing a lot of people. I got seriously injured and had to resign.

Anyone gotten this running on Vista? Every time I start a new game it crashes after loading halfway. None of the video options work either, I try to switch to windowed mode and it does a screen flickering thing that games do when you change resolution and it stays in full screen mode and dumps me back to the main menu. Same thing happens when I try to change the screen resolution, but it stays the same resolution and again back to the main menu.

yeah I'm playing on Vista 32 bit.

It's actually pretty a good game and not as boring as it sounds.

For some reason I always fuck up before the elections and get voted out of office though, gotta work on that. How did George Bush manage to fuck up but stay in office anyway? damn, I gotta go ask him!

This game actually rules. It just sucks that certain retarded groups will try to kill you even if 90% of the population support you. Like for example if you great an egalitarian society by providing lots of public services and and benefits for the poor, the greedy capitalist cunts will hire assasins to kill you, even if 90% of the population loves you. Likewise, if you spend too much on foreign aid and too little on the military, the fucking patriots will kill you. And if you teach evolution at school, the religious loons will kill you. First of all, that's complete bullshit. Second, there should be some way to supress these groups in order to protect yourself from them. I had like 5 suicide attacks against me by the religious group, and they all failed. And yet, even after 5 failed attempts, my intelligence service did nothing to protect me even though i maxed its funding. You should be able to tell your police and intelligence service to arrest every fucking last one of them and lock them away for life for their unpatriotic activities Smile But you can't, so this game is kind of broken.

this is a great game! Simple, yet having some depth. Besides you also learn something about how countries are ruled and what problems you have to take care of as the president or primeminister. I actually think this could be used in education in highschool...great game!

Trouble is as Serben pointed out there is a bit of a pre-dispostion built into the game against humanist governments.
While it may be true of one country in particular that loosening up the reins on people's personal lives while spreading the wealth around is likely to get you killed, that isn't true in all societies, however much the neo-cons would like it to be.

Therefore it's use as an education tool is somewhat limited. If the game rewarded strategies for successfully resisting the greed heads, then it would be a good education tool.

I did my examination work on games that could be used in education (I'm a teacher) and while this game is far from perfect, I can see it used as something to talk about. It's simplified yes, but it could be used if you do it right. We tested the use of Heart of Iron on highschool students while doing we wrote our work, while that game has a great depth and ALOT of historical correct details it became nearly "too" advance for some students. What the students did learn was that history are like a wave, one thing sets another in motion and we will see traces of that during the whole timeline. Anyhow, this game is easier and can be played on most computers which is a good thing. Smile

Well if you like this game you're going to LOVE Geo-Political Simulator. It's another political game like this, only it's a million times more advanced and detailed. Unlike this game, you can pick almost all the countries in the world to play as (except the really small ones that have less than 1 or 2 million people) and you can do so much that it's mind boggling. You can change any law, any rule, any policy, basically ANYTHING, any way you see fit. And unlike this game, when the religious loons or capitalist pigs start complaining about your socialist/pro science policies you can send your intelligence service to crack down on them Very Happy For example, in one game i was playing i had this extremist ultra nationalist group that was demanding the ouster of my government. At first they were only small and annoying, but eventually they grew large enough to carry out car bombings in my cities. So i sent secret agents to infiltrate them, and once they had been successfully infiltrated and i had enough information about them, i ordered my intelligence service to "neutralize" them. In one single day, their membership fell by 75% Very Happy

You can even increase funding for your personal security to decrease the chances of falling victim to assassination. It's just so fucking great. The only problem is that it's only avaliable in French so far, and it's bugged as hell. But according to the developers, the official international website for the game will be up in December, and the first non French release (in this case, in Russia) will be out in January. So in the beginning of next year there'll probably be an English release. Here's a topic i made about that game:

I'm really waiting for that one as well.

This game is fun, but only for 3-4 turns, then I get tired.
I've either not gotten re-elected or I've created an almost perfect society, so there's nothing new to do. It worked as a break between all new shooters tho.

It´s a fun game but quite easy.I´m on my 12th re-election and everything is stable.
There should have made more events, the terrorist captured and hurricanes are starting to be a little bit annoying.
Lost 3h on my first play.

I chose America and the first thing I did was legalize cannabis ... by the end of my term, I was re-elected with 65% of the vote.

While this game is fun for a while, there is absolutely no long term motivation to play it.
Once you know how to get the initial problems of a country under control, it's extremely easy to get reelected every time.

I thought Japan was kinda hard with the huge debt crisis and stuff...
Now I get reelected all the time with 98%+ votes, make shitloads of money, and everyone's happy.
What's left to do now? Nothing... I can just skip turns because there's nothing to do anymore.
And that was after an hour of playing maybe. 2 hours I guess if you count the failed tries to get everything under control in the first term.

I'm interested in that geopolitical simulator game now.. sucks it's not out in english :/

There was one game awhile back that was crazy indepth with details and decisions that affect the whole world. It was a simulator of sorts with a huge database of each country and their political agendas. I tried to play it for a few hours and just couldn't absorb the vast information that it offers. Can't think of the name ...

Democracy 2 is out. The first one was quite original which is something lacking in most games these days.

Demo available here
