The AI seemed to do something like this:
are you winning? --> AI starts to drive faster than their cars should be able to do
are you losing? --> AI slows down (except later in the game where they keep racing)
are you winning but the AI's car is out of view? --> AI drives spotlessly, very fast, and can somehow take corners without slowing down (can be seen on the minimap)
On top of that, the AI crashes LOADS when in your view. It's so easy to make AI cars crash but of course, the second they're out of view, they suddenly are able to recover and come flying at you again at twice their normal top speed. Yet despite crashing loads inside your view, they NEVER EVER EVER crash when not in your view.
Now, this is the perfect example of horrible AI and NFS is a mainstream crappy racing game for people who don't know what a real game is about. Arcade or not, an AI that is a real joke and cheats is never fun. |
Yup, the Underground-games are good examples.
They´re just pathetic excuses for shitty AI.

Exactly - Mario Kart is a multiplayer game - single player is just tagged on for practice so I never really criticised the game much for it but the AI in Mario Kart is just as bad as in NFS - it cheats terribly.
And considering that 15 years ago, Nintendo could already program a similar AI to current NFS games in their Super Mario Kart, the level of AI in NFS games says it all really doesn't it? EA need to get their shit together - Flatout 2 has a far better AI and offers a far more complex challenge.

i just installed and played two races...
and i think it's the most crappiest piece of shit ever...
First the interface hit me with settings with all on low on 640x480, no big deal, but just to adjust the resolution you need to click and go through 10 menus and sliders. Same goes for all the other options.... click once, clicke once more, click 2 more times and 5 more just to turn something on
Overall the graphics are mediocre at best, as if EA are using the same engine for all the NFSs..
Some things that really annoy & anger me..
No rear veiw mirror... where the fuck is my rear view mirror , i play with the hood camera (for the lack of interior one... but thats something that needs to be done and worked on, and thats EA in the end..)
the dj & commentator guy/gay is really getting on my nerves.. i can't describe how i fell every time i hear him...
oh, and is there a way to get rid off the retarded green arrows?
soo in the end all was like i was expecting it, shitty and consolish..

I still need to try that - didn't it have Starforce or something? I remember there being a reason why I didn't want to try it.

That's called "rubberbanding AI". It's like as if the AI is attached to your car with a rubberband. When you're close - there's slack and it slows down. When you're ahead - the rubberband effect pulls that AI towards you at amazing speed. It's a cheap trick.

its the same shit every nfs game has always pulled... its rediculous... you could basically race 99 laps in last place, and win it on the last lap... its always pissed me off, because there is no reward in driving really well...

Didn't the developers state that there was NO rubberband-AI in ProStreet?
I somehow remember reading that somewhere...

Yeah I know what it's called - but most people don't so I thought I'd explain Besides, it's not full rubberbanding - only for the first half of the game the AI slows down for you. When you reach a certain point, they immediately stop slowing down when you get behind.
And yeah it's very cheap and lazy and completely and utterly ruins the idea behind a racing game. NFS games allow you to tweak and upgrade your car, but with an AI that matches your speed, what is the use??? If I upgrade my car to be the fastest possible without buying a different one, even if I race on the exactly same races against the exact same opponents, somehow their cars are suddenly faster too. It makes the upgrade part of the game completely and utterly pointless.
And worst of all, the faster you make your car, the harder it is to handle - it means that having a slower car is actually easier since the AI won't have faster cars either, and you'll handle corners better (which NFS AI are always crap at).

Is there LAN support in ProStreet? Reading the reviews has been underwhelming to say the least, but LAN will definitely make me dl it.

Oh god yes, didn't that game have major problems at first? I vaguely remember a lot of people having problems with it, which put me off.

I like this game. I really fucking like it. I've liked it since the first videos, and for me it has totally delivered. Especially since Drag is so fucking challenging this time. I could wish for increased difficulty in Grip racing, but I'm only at the start.
You can keep wondering why I like it, but some of the whining reasons posted in the last pages are laughable.

I have also expected worse, but there seems to be some stuttering issue. Even reducing graphic settings to low, the game is still stuttering and I am sure it is no graphical lag. I might try it again if there is a fix for that. The game isn't as bad as I had it expected to be though.

I'm still trying to dominate two race days, I just can't seem to be able to do well enough in the 1/4 mile drag races. I sold the damn Civic and got a Charger S/T, so after a bit of upgrading it should be good enough.
I love how long the game seems this time, and how hard it is to get money to tune your rides. You really have to race and race to earn it.
Another thing I love from the few hours I played the game? Drifting for no reason with the 350Z. That car feels so nice around corners that I just want to use a little handbrake and get smoke coming out of the wheels, while holding the stick the opposite way to keep it nice and balanced. At last, drifiting as it should be, whenever I want.

In the previews didn't they say that you would be able to do normal repairs to your car and cheap repairs? like duct taping the bumper and stuff like that? it seems that they decided to not include it.
also did anyone else find extremely idiotic the scoring system in the sector racing?
