Has anyone ever had an employer ring them up and ask them to put in a job application for their company?

Its just happened to a friend of mine.

yeah, BNQ rang me and asked me if id be interested in applying for work there. I think its part of a new thing that the job center plus are giving out information to help potential re-visitors to the JSA, has your friend been on JSA recently?

Yeah, the DIY company. I am (to be honest) questioning them and its legality, i mean surely they cannot give out personal information without my consent? Its as if they think im an illiterate kid that cant read or write, ive been on the JSA for near a month now in my town of low employment, there is one consultant in there who i can relate to and talk to who chats to me like Im a human being and not some fucking wino who cotches in doors all day jacking off.

If they are gonna help me out fine, but the embarrassment of them harassing or burdening companies with the pressure of recruiting me is really shitty, I feel like a charity case.

I wouldn't worry about it. I mean it gets you a job and it gets their figures in order. Everyone is happy.

I really hope my mate gets this job. He's really depressed that he may not be working over Christmas.

The money isn't bad either, £17k a year to start.

The thing is, with all do respect, I dont want to lower myself to working at frigging BnQ, my qualifications can land me a job at what your friend is capable of perhaps even more. And my personal skills (Im near professional with Photoshop) I can land myself design work easily, but this town lacks any kind of work so badly; id rather not be sitting in doors all day designing for a living. Sad Ive often thought about moving, but I simply can't afford it and will need to work several years to earn the money to even start thinking about it.

unfortunately today having near professional photoshop skills does not go hand in hand with design work.

I'm sure it will work out for you. I mean the people in the majority that use these forums have a much better skill level base in IT than the average Joe on the street. My friend doesn't have any PC qualifications at all. I posted a while back that he'd passed his HGV test. But as the haulage industry is all experienced based he's been unabled to find work. He's had (I think) in excess of 30 interviews since May and its always the same thing, "come back when you have experience". Well guess what, how the hell does anyone get experience when no one will give him a job? Question

So he's taken my advice and went for IT, he changed his three options with the Job Centre and took off security and put on call centre work. I mean this guy has taught me all I know with pc's. When it comes to hardware, he's the man to ask. I can now build a PC with total confidence because of him. Yet that experience and knowledge is going to waste. So I said go for IT I know you can do it.

And hopefully it will pay off for him. Rather than the hard, hard and dirty work it is driving a truck.

You sound like a good friend with good advice. I really am in need of it myself, but Im the type that can give it too but not take my own. There are so many factors in my life that affect my work and what im willing to do as work. Im in a fairly long distance relationship, (16 miles apart) It may not seem alot but for a young guy like me (im 20) without a car it can be so depressing, and hinders any choice I make regardless of it being work or not.

Finding a job ideal for me right now seems so distant, to the point where im feeling depressed about it. Im also in the rut of not having experience with jobs I apply for, gone are the times when employers would look upon qualifications as additional and take confidence, appearance and capability over them. I mean who needs a qualification to take orders in a DIY store? I applied at B&Q regardless of wanting to ass im in such desperate need right now that id take anything apart from factories or Mc'donalds! Laughing

I laugh about it on the forum indeed but in reality im far from laughing. Life in this town sucks ass.

No. Like I said Gem, with your skills companies will be crying out for the skills of this forum INCLUDING YOU. You're a gamer, thats normally the pinnacle of the computer industry. Even Moore himself said that gamers are the pushing point of technology.

You should always work, even if it's not what you went to school for, it shows future employers you are willing to work, you also get in contact with more people than by staying at home, so you have a better chance of finding someone who knows of a job you like. And any kind of job will allow you to buy some transportation so you can see your girl more often.

Its always easier to get a job when you have a job. Even with the notification period.

Ive been lucky I've always made the right choice. I'm quite high in the Education Board. But thats with exteremly hard work.

I had to do it. My head mistress was a bitch to me, and now she's in her 80's I'm her boss and well thats a great feeling.

Yes I've made the right decisions in life.
