I dont know about online mode on the full game, but you can play against a friend on the demo.
The demo is really crappy though, it's way too easy, i tried both kuerten and sampras, first match 40-0, 40-15, 40-15, second match 40-0 40-0 40-0 with sampras, im sure there are difficulties level on the full game but they could have do something better with the demo to try it out.
The two camera angle available on the demo suck, one is too much close to the ground and the other is too far..
The six buttons seem to make it difficult but you ll notice the lift and slice shot are almost exactly the same and, the drop shot is kinda useless.. With the risk shot (power shot, you need to hold on the button and release it at the right time), if you just hit it once without holding it, it will release the bar itself right in the middle, letting you shot a very fast ball on your first serv without any difficulties.. it ll be powerfuller if you hold it of course but you wont even notice the difference if you dont look at the displayed speed..
The audience gfx are still bad (there s no game with good audience gfx afrom what i know anyway)
The two things frustrating me the most is that you cannot plunge (if you can please tell me how, i tried hard!), and that it tell you you can hit a "mood" button (negativ/positiv, sometimes it will be a positiv mood even if you hitted the negativ button when you won the point) for 3 or 4 secondes before you can hit the replay button or skip the cinematics. First its totally useless, second you can hit the skip button ten time before being able to actually skip...
edit: And as for a lot of demo, before starting another match, you ll have to wait one minute reading things available in the game you totally dont care about because those things had to be in a tennis game...

Has somebody re-registered under a new name perhaps?
I liked Virtua Tennis as it had a very intutive feel to the whole game, was simple, fun and challenging whilst also retaining a moderate amount of realism.
I've not played Tennis 2002, although I have played Virtua Tennis 2 and even then like the original it has the issue of becoming a little too repetitive and simple - especially against a CPU opponent and invariably against humans. I ended up just getting bored and it lost that novelty factor.
So if this game has more depth I'm excitied, it's about time we got a real simulation of Tennis, I've not played anything as good since VT, and before that it was some game called smash tennis I think on the Super Nintendo.

ispep,if u are referring to me when u say that somebody made another account then u are completely wrong! i told people from the top spin board(www.xbox.com) that somebody here is talking shiet about the best tennis game ever and so the aid came to defend this wonderfull amazing game! pallebrun i am sure u didnt even tried out top spin but look at u talking about it saying non sense all over your posts! unbelievable!
P.S: pallebrum u are talking about the world tour on tennis2k2 but did u ever tried the world tour in top spin????? ahahhaah i cant believe to wut i am hearing!
P.P.S: smmt,u say that the demo is too easy?? ok play against me then so that i can shut your mouth once for all!

u can do long shots etc. but the Shot power doesnt come into it when you play with the "far" view camera (press tab to bring up options) the ai is far too simple really. quite often i got average serves on and they miss it, or u can just do the same thing over and over. if the ai improves abt 5 times then itll be a real competition but still i think it will come into its own online and i hope its a success since i can see that being pretty fun.

But there is a reason PC gamers take Xbox reviewers with a grain of salt.
cause in the overal scheme of it.
Xbox games suck. nuff said

uhhh... you just posted that the top spin demo is awesome, and this game is a straight port of an Xbox game .. so you're not making any sense there

shot power is determined by holding down the shot buttons .. the longer you hold it the harder the shot. you can aim the ball deep or short the same way you do in tennis 2k2.
before top spin i played tennis 2k2 on my ps2 and loved it, but top spin has a lot more depth when you play other people. i agree that the AI is weak though .. i enjoyed the single player in 2k2 more, but for playing against friends top spin is much better imo.

Believe me, once you learn the game you'll change your mind about Topspin! It's much deeper in EVERY sense. You haven't seen anything until you start playing online. Virtua tennis is a joke compared to it!
Don't get me wrong, it has is flaws and it could be improved, but so far is the best tennis.

Well, i've played most Tennis games over the years, Smash Tennis on the SNES and Virtua Tennis are my favourites. But Top Spin looks to be the best Tennis game yet.
The demo mentions Gamespy online support, i'm guessing PC players won't be able to play against Xbox players?
