Already found out, I needed to talk to Siegfried to get a party together to attack the salamanders, so now I am officially on ACT IV:) Wonder how far I am from finishing the game, are acts 4 and 5 as large as act 3???

Here is the solution to decrease your loading/autosave time by disable autosaves. I havent tried it jet so dont know if it really works.

Well, here's a solution (which you can keep once the 1.2 patch arrives, that promises to eliminate the horrible loading times) which will decrease most loading times to up to 50% depending on your system.
This will remove the autosaving feature which you get almost everywhere where there is a 'loading bar'.
1. First know your installation path to the game. Replace the X with your current path to where you installed the game.
Go to game installation folder which should be something like this:
X:\XXX\The Witcher\System
Mine is at
H:\Games\The Witcher\System
2. Create a txt file inside the system folder by right clicking in the system folder and selecting 'New -> Text Document' (This may vary from system to system, but this is by using Windows XP). Name your created file to:
player.ini
3. Now open your newly created file with Notepad if you haven't already. Add these lines in it and save:
[Server Options]
Disable AutoSave=1
4. Start the game and enjoy less loading times! |
I would wait for 1.2 patch witch will be out in end of december, but im afraid that it will not be compatible with old saves.

Wow works good, got half the loading times in Vizima.
From inside to outside is now like 5 sec for me.
Definitely gonna keep playing now.
Edit: Lol wtf, if i walk out of the Hairy bear inn, Gerhalt doesn't respond to wasd anymore.
Have to save the game when Gerhalt doesn't respond anymore, quit to main menu en reload the save game. Gonna see if it happens else where.

lol
I created the file but had 2nd thought just before I ran the game, so I deleted it.
Even though I don't like that extra loading time, auto-save can be really helpful at times especially when it saves your ass so many times ( bosses/unexpected battles, etc ).

Using the player.ini disabled geralt's movement and the loading of npcs when I entered an inn. Weird.. wish it worked though, thanks for the tip!

IMHO, amazing how far SF competitors might went in thier black PR campaigns.
It is obvious that this action was aimed to collect such kind of responses.
This is true provocation. In fact, anyone could sign whatever with any name.
Important thing is that I'm not defending StarForce. I just dont want to play any role in corporate wars.
I have nothing to do with all this. Poor fellas, 'they' didnt know that I left starforce about year ago. Besides, just imagine: knowing that nick sage386 is explictly linked with my personality, and easily trackable; knowing that this kind of action is illegal, having wife and kids.... I had absolutelly no reasons to do that.
So, whoever has done that is apparently playing dirty games.
Just wanted all of you to know what's goin on, no further comments from me on this.
kind regards alex // cyberware, ucf, ex-sf.

Spoiler: |
If you mean the meeting/party in Act 3 then ask those close to her, such as Thaler and that retainer, also ask Triss once you know what she really likes.
Just keep talking to the other guests and you should finish that section without any problems.

Yeah..it's one of those games that loading times heavily depend on the graphics card, not ram. Changing from x1900xt 512 to 8800gt 512 loading times were cut more than half!

umm.. what? that makes no sense, why would a graphics card influence loading times. graphics card memory is much faster than any other memory in your system so why would it slow down loading? HDD, cpu and ram influence loading times, a graphics card has nothing to do with it, at least as far as I know. I'm open to new things if you want to point me towards some facts that prove me wrong :-)

Newer gpus have faster memories ?? Don't forget x1900xt 512 may have been a high end card but it has slower memory than 8800gt + a tech that's 2 year old now? Maybe shader speed plays a role when loading textures too? Donno
If you search this thread you'll a test I had when I was using the x1900xt vs a guy who had a 8800gts 320 both with 2gb ddr 2 800 + e600, and his times were much faster in most cases.
After switching to 8800gt and MAKING NO OTHER CHANGES, VOILA ! loading cut in half!
I'm open to other suggestions too, since I changed nothing else in my system and I thought what you say was true too ( hdd-ram-cpu ) ...However... ^^

I noticed this too. With 8600GT loading times are much faster than with 1950pro.
