The Zero Punctuation article made a few things clear:

1. We pay so much for each Episode because Valve has nothing better to do than showing random people their offices and paying for it.

2. The games take so long because they don't have any kind of defined roles. Everybody does what he likes, which probably ends up in triple the work.

3. Time makes quality.

I would have agreed with you if crysis, COD 4, UT3, etc 'monolithic' releases had enough SP gameplay. Sadly, this is a general trend for every developer. At least valve calls them episodes and provides good 5-6 hours. Others offer 'full' games with 10 hours.

I'm playing episode 2 using the Detonation release but it always crashes at the same point Sad

http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/3148/hl2crashgf6.jpg

Anyone who has an idea how to get around, maybe a savegame right after this point?

Nevermind I found a solution on Planet Half-Life. If somebody has the same problem, this savegame gets you after that crash point.

The Detonation release definitely doesn't fit on a DVD9 , just a FYI.

Question is, what do we do with the 8.34 GB iso now? I don't think anything can be removed to make it smaller...

detonation release is fucked up. gordon is just popping like crazy when walking over small objects.
just stick with old release with crackfix for pinkaxe

detonation release is only good for halif-life 2 and ep1 ,if you have those already installed.
those from detonation have that 50k files packed in gcf files so your hdd wont be scratching like some old dj would be playing it Laughing

Look for Studio HiCZoK movies and arts !

#1 retard

- I don''t have the problem you say
- Steam uses GCF files too you retard.
- Burned the game just fine on a DVD9 (Max data for a DVD9 is 8.54 GB!)

just burn it on 2 dvds in RAR format as a backup and extract it when u want to play to HD and then mount and install!

is it hard enough to think about something like that??! or just keep the iso on the HD and whining and moaning not knowing what to do! lol

I tend to burn the iso file instead of making an image,if its too big just split
it with winrar, much easier, then you can mount an play

I can't burn the Detonation release on a DVD9 either.... How did you do it? Is it even possible? I hope so, otherwise it sucks.

you can't. It's about 400mb too big to fit on a DVDR DL. I'd just split the rars up on two DVD5.

How do you overburn a DVD9? I tried it in nero and it says the max capacity I can set is 4600 MB. What software did you use?

I'm assuming he made a typo because as far as I am aware you can NOT overburn DVD9, its physically impossible?

well , that reminds me
Doug Lombardi said that they'll give info about episode 3 until 2009 .. well , even though the year aint over i'm kinda skeptical , but after the "30 sept 2003" fiasco they should know when to keep their mouth shut
