www.shaunhutson.com

A little known author. But I think he's a far better author than Steven King.

His books are unputdownable.

I can never get into his books. I don't like his writing style.

Try Shaun Hutson though, his books are very graphic.

King can be different. For example: i just LOVE Dreamcatcher, From a Buick 8 and Cell but I'm totally cold about ALL the rest. And several people I know feel the same way.

You can grab the whole collection in ebook format off usenet and give each a try and if you like it - buy the paperback.

love LOVECRAFT!, the master of the dark arts and the utterly bizarre.
Remember reading his stuff way back and actually getting to afraid to turn off the lights

Can't remember the name of the novel, but it was this guy who did experiments on ppl in this shed up in New England (most of hes stories are set there...like Kings...I wonder why )

Anyhow, have this vivid image in my head of these living heads in these jars...oh and don't forget the smell of rotten fish and reading the Necronomicon and GOING MAD!!!!!!...the days when the Elders walked the Earth...brilliant stuff

@waldo
Why did you like "colour out of space"? What made it so great?

I love Stephen King. I am reading Stephen King's "Everything's eventual - 1408" I loved "The Man in the Black Suit" I wanted to read that to a young 10 yr old but his mom said 'NO' because it was Stephen King. I saw a lot of good stuff in that story for a 10 yr old, I used to fish alone as a kid. The good stuff I saw for him in the book includes family responsibility, the death of a loved one, and the love for your mom and dad. In the story the mom was seen a bit pretty in the boys mind. I liked that because a boy shouldn't think of his mom as ugly. I would die of shame if my son thought I was ugly. This is a curious kid.

I have to say I really love Stephan Kings stuff. He writes so simple and plain. There was 2 novels where he interchanged characters. Desperado.... and some other book. (too lazy to check) I loved those.

@everybody else
If you like a book can you tell me why? Tells me what draws you in.

Also, before anyone blacklists me for wanting to read a 10 yr old Stephan King you have to read the story I am refering too. It is a good old wholesome story about the devil.

Yea, King isn't graphic. I thought Clive Barker was more so.

oh my god. when i read the colour out of space.. it was described vividly... and extensivbly but also incredibley vaugley... (sp) sorry pissy drunk.

and it set an atmosphere that was freaky and scary and creepy. I actually got shivers while r eading it. THen I read The reanimator and since it was mulitple short stories set in one book he lept doing the whole (previously on the reanimator kind of thing) which made the flow of constant reading kind of ... icky... i'm reading rats in the walls as well as the old man and the sea or something by hemmingway... i'm trying to find the shit jennnnni reccomended and will read it during the chirstmas break Fuck I got hooked into reading!

It's sooo bull shit! I never was like this. It's gay. Beyond gay too. I can't believe it I like reading! Crying or Very sad Very Happy

But yeah... colour out of space was described in such a way that your mind wandered. Every little bit was described to the point where you'd get bored but at the same time nothing was described and so you're drawn in. Your mind wanders and you see things. They're described so viviidly and yet not. It's hard to describe. Basically the descibes the unknown. And that's what scares you.

From Shaun Hudson's site. Made me laugh.
Quote:
On a different matter, and I can’t let this go...just when you think the world can’t get anymore fucked up, what happens...THE FUCKING SPICE GIRLS REFORM...Jesus Christ, what have we all done to deserve that? Sixty million for a World tour but it’s obviously not enough, they’re doing a Tesco’s advert for one million each as well...fuck me, that’d be enough to get me shopping at Sainsbury’s. The very idea that these overpaid sacks of shit wheel their trolleys around Tesco’s is a joke. Please all advertisers, don’t take us for twats....Not quite so easily anyway. It’s as bad as seeing Julie Walters and Ian Wright in Asda uniforms in another ad....Or Alan Hansen pushing his trolley around fucking Morrisons...That’s something else that fucks me off intensely. The fact that these “celebrities” aren’t content with their massive salaries from their TV or Film work, they have to do adverts or voice-overs too. How much money can you fucking spend, you whores? How much do you need? Actresses on five million a film are promoting perfume for shitloads more. Singers on millions an album are selling their own perfume for yet more cash. Apparently, seventy per cent of all perfumes sold this Xmas will be scents endorsed by “celebrities”...fuck me, who would want to smell like Paris Hilton or David Beckham? Do people imagine that buying these perfumes will give them a slice of that kind of lifestyle. Surely no one is that naïve...are they? Gary Lineker earns upwards of one million a year presenting MATCH OF THE DAYand more for writing a column for a national newspaper and yet still he finds it necessary to sell us all fucking crisps too...You greedy cunt..All of you money grabbing, fame seeking bastards should try endorsing shotguns. Stick them in your mouths and pull the triggers. Does it remove your whole head or just half of it? Do you need a double barrel or will a single do it? Here, hold still Paris and I’ll find out...
