The pwnage part referred to the games, not your inability to find their games.

the lazy bit refers to the fact that anyone can search and find a listing of games, but it seems noone has the ability to paste in this thread a short list of some of their greatest... i mean its been 5 posts since i asked my original question, and noones been able to do it yet... im stunned... maybe we should start with something easier... can anyone name a crytek game?!

ahh finally, thank you... atleast youre capable of posting game titles.

i never got into the balduhs gate games or nwn games.. mass effect sounds cool apparently, but its console only so meh...

well im sure once microsoft has milked its 'EXCLUSIVE XBOX GAME!!" marketing approach enough, they'll do a GOW and do a quicky shit port to the pc, and then ill give it a try and see how it is...

knights of the old republic was first on the original xbox as well and later came to the PC. it was a good port, worked well. As was Jade Empire, and they even added a big bunch of new features for the PC version.

And yeah eventhough it wasn't officially announced yet I'm 90% sure there will be a PC version of mass effect. there's just no reason not to do it. A huge title like that is sure to make lots of money on the PC, plus it's unreal engine 3 so should be easy enough to port over.

back to crysis though... I'm thinking about buying an 8800 GTX now because there's a shop that sells em for only 360 euros, only 100€ more than an 8800 GT.
a GT would probably suffice but they're still hard as hell to find.
the new 8800 GTS (G92) is also an option, it goes for around 315 euros.

damn, which one should I get? The GTX is clearly the better card once you go into higher resolutions + AA thanks to it's higher memory and memory bandwidth, but I'm not sure if I even need that. I'm probably fine with sticking to 1280x1024 without AA so a GTX probably wouldn't give me a noticeable improvement over a GT or GTS.

hmmm!

well an 8800gtx is good for high settings and a 1280'ish resolution

you could always ask crytek for their opinion... and then just do the opposite... but the 8800 gtx is still the best card out at the moment.

I hate them now, for not making Mass Effect for PC. Plus, they're part of EA now, so there's not even a reason to start liking them.

Icewind Dale and Neverwinter2 is from Blackisle, and since BG2 they only made KOTOR that was good.

It really only depends how much money you are willing to spend. Gtx will last you longer then GT but if you dont wanna spend all that money then get GT.

hmm I dont think a 1gb GT is going to be any better than a 512mb one. the memory bandwidth is most likely too low to utilize all the memory.

I'm probably going to go for the GTX. eventhough the GT should be good enough, the gtx is only 100€ more expensive and at least it's easier to find than a GT.

well i think a gtx is wise, because theyve come down a huge amount in price, and it WILL last you until the generation AFTER the next gen of cards coming soon.

the only reason i would recommend the gt, is because they are a bit cheaper and they would be the best choice for SLI, so even though it'd cost more than a single gtx, two gt sli'd would really kick everythings asses from here till the end of 2009....

so if you want to game well for the next 2 years, get a gtx. want to game with pure eyecandy that will make your eyes bleed, GT SLI Very Happy

all comes down to money in the end.

yeah. With prices as they were a month ago, GT at 250€, GTX at 450€ I would have never considered a GTX. But at only 370€ I think they're still a viable choice eventhough they're not that much faster than a GT.

Now of course if the GT was at the price it was supposed to be (200€) then I would again choose a GT. It's probably gonna take at least a month or two before the GTs prices actually drop down to their MSRP.

I was originally gonna go for the new GTS, but I was expecting to be below 300€. Now it's available at 330€ or more, and at a price like that I might as well just get the GTX with only 40€ more.

I just recently put together a system for a friend, core 2 duo e6750, 8800 gt, and tried crysis and it ran really well at 1280x1024 on DX9 very high. That's what made me really wanna get a new graphics card. my 7900 GTX is just not good enough anymore, it's almost 2 years old after all.

Why would you spend money on sli when you cant use it in most games or if it works youre performance is up by only 30% if that much? Not to mention that 2 cards heat up youre case by big %. Sli = waste of money.

You do know that SLI doesnt work in most games? And that you need to wait for new drivers for every new game? So you are willing to wait for who knows long to see if Nvidia will give support to specific game that you are playing? Well good for you. You have 30 inch screen? What card you have now?

the bigger games that will tend to benefit from sli do get drivers that enable sli relatively quickly... shit like gow doesnt have sli because it doesnt need it, but games like crysis and cod got it quite quickly.

the only game currently out, that doesnt have sli but would benefit from it, is the witcher.

There's forceware 169.17 beta out as well. supposedly some more crysis performance enhancements.

I've actually been using forceware 163.75 from october and i'm gonna get this new driver now and run some benchmarks to see if the performance really did improve.
I'll let you guys know what results I get.

nah there's no patch. it's just mentioned in one of those beta drivers that you need the crysis patch to get the performance enhancements. so nvidia probably has a beta version of the patch for testing already.
