8.5/10 was kind of disapointed at the beginning cause i thought it was an action flick...but the end of the movie was worth the wait. Jennifer Garner put up one hell of a fight against the big Saudian.

I thought the start was incredible horrifying but it just became another pro american drama flick with lame points of understandings between two cultures :/

30 days of night - 4/10

1) Either this movie is very badly edited or the original director quit and it was finished off by a film-school student.
2) The vampires look unimpressive which in itself is impressive since even in really bad movies the vampires always look pretty cool. Here they just make angry faces and scream at the camera.
3) Movie looks as if it was shot for a large part in a studio. One never gets the feel of the desolation that would be normal in such a place.

Why a 4/10? It's the season to be generous. Razz

Yeah baby!!! I watched a new movie! Laughing
Heh, I went to the cinema and watched Ben Stiller newest comedy. Not bad but it wasn't the movie that keeps you smiling all the time waiting for the next laugh after 1 minute. Wink

Resident Evil: Extinction - 7/10

pro's:

setting (las vegas), action (headshots), special effects (raven scene), better that part 2.

con's:

story sucks, end sucks, so now stop making a new one. Smile

Spielbergs, Private Ryan was balanced, it showed the Germans as the evil Hun and the French as inept surrender monkeys in need of assistance.

Kubriks, Full metal jacket showed the horror of the vietnam war through the eyes of raw recruits.

Zwicks, Glory showed an equally balanced american civil war, i.e. the prejudice faced by the black recruits from both sides

private ryan wasnt balanced, but it was a rubbish film. if spielbergs name wasnt on the cover, and hanks name wasnt on the cast list, the movie would never have gotten the acclaim it did.

and no, america can not make a balanced war film. its always americans = great heros that never do any wrong, other side = pure evil... i mean i get it, you cant sell a movie to the americans where the americans arent the pure light and goodness fighting evil demons, so i understand why it is the way that it is, but one should never expect to take american made war films seriously or expect them to be anything other than biased...

Saving Private Ryan was a good film, regardless of it's American bias. I get the impression you just don't rate Spielberg and thats why you deride it.

Still, it's fashionable to hate what the majority love, hows that working out for you?

you cant really expect a culture (american for example) to make a movie that derives totally from what they believe in (valors, norms), because it wouldnt appeal to the viewers much and they wouldnt be attracted to the characters or the goals represented by the story. So personnaly i'm not expecting big budget film to NOT be biased, hell! even documentaries trying to be objective for academic purpose often fails to that.

actually i quite enjoy spielbergs earlier stuff, and thought minority report wasnt bad, but saving private ryan was dull and seriously nothing special.. its a film that floated purely on the cast list and the directors name, not because it was a well written interesting story.

and i didnt dislike spr because of bias, i dont even SEE american bias in their war films anymore because its something i just automatically accept and ignore now - hell, i even thoroughly enjoyed the opening beach sequence, that was great, but everything after was pretty average.

The opening scene was fantastic. One of the classics I will always remember. But, I can't remember the rest of the film...only the ending battle scene and that they found Ryan. Sums up this 2.5+ hour film. Still epic but mainly because of the opening invasion scene.

well thats pretty much what i said. awesomely fun and cool opening beach sequence, followed by a very VERY blah and average film that mostly got such high ratings because of the 'names' involved in production.
