Well if a game has a great story then it makes it even better. A great story isn't required for the game to be good (Far Cry) but it does help a lot. Some of my favorite games of the past years (Mafia, Max Payne 1 & 2) or of all time (Metal Gear Solid) have had great stories and really made them great.

Well I also think that STORY plays an important part in a game that should be entertaining and not only motivate to fire fiercely around.

But where's the depth in the stroy of Max Payne 1+2, except "VLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD" and "MOOOOOOONAAAAAAA" and not to forget the music "...OUII OUIOUIOUIIIOUII OUII OUII OUII OUIIII...."
Anyway they were great games and I loved playin them

HL2 is all about the atmosphere and the story.

doom three is about atmosphere and and the story

hl2 is about the game play and the story... the atmosphere + the theme isn't as original as a setting in space with dark corridor know there’s death beyond the next door.

and HL2 story...humanity is already fucked, your just there to clean up the mess.

Its not so much the story, or the summary of that story in one sentence, but how they execute it during the game. Doom3 very rarely had an interesting cut-scene or story development, HL2 on the other hand seems different.

Watch the movies on the intro (train) and the one in the apartment complex and you already know theres more to it then run around shooting everything that moves, there are breaks in the action where you get to explore and examine the world as it is after being destroyed by these aliens, I dont know about you guys but I think thats fucking cool, not like some claustrophobic space station that looks exactly the same from start to finish.

Doom3 had a pretty good story, but there is 2 type of people, those who skip cinematic and try to find the good way to go first and those like me who want to see 100% of the game, read PDA, explore and look at every details. If you did this, yeah there is a bug story

Problem with doom 3 is how they delivered the story, it was there if you wanted to see it but for the most part. the brain dead masses didnt have to see it and could continue killing everything they see. hl2 is gonna force ya to play the movie, just as hl did, and you can take this to the bank, if hl2 is anything like hl, it will be the second best game ever made Wink

The story of Half-Life 2 is mainly about you shooting weird looking aliens into pieces. Somehow I have a feeling it won't be anything we haven't seen before, except maybe for the physics model (which kinda sucks in CS:Source however!) - I'll definetily play and complete the game but the only reason for me to buy it are the multiplayer mods.

Ok I finally got to play CS:S online (the REAL servers) today and I really like it. I've heard the engine and such used for the game is the same as the one they're using for HL2. I really want to buy the game so I don't have to worry about playing a cracked version on the steam engine ( I know I'm paranoid about Valve but the game is fun so it's worth it to own.)

So based on these facts....I'm wondering if it will work on my system.

Dell Dimension 3000
P4 2.8
512 ram
Sound Blaster Live! 7.1
Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 plus (pci)

When I play CS:S the game looks and runs great...will I be able to expect the same performance from HL2? Because my card SUCKS at running doom 3...It got overheated and NO I'm not overclocking. So I'm not about to go and buy a game that will no doubt NOT run on my pc. The original HL and CS run perfectly on all high settings...and medium runs CS:S very well....I just don't wanna go and buy HL2 for CS:S and only be able to play CS:S which is essentially a free mod..... Confused

the best thing about the first hl was the mods imho.....

TFC... CS.... DOD...... the list goes on and on and on and on....

also it was one of the first game that kind of made u part of a living breathing world..

Remember at the start when ur in the train.. and u can jump round.. walk around.. listen to the chick.. watch all the things going on around u ... then u can go around and talk to people etc....

i dont think it does. if they do theyll lose a lot of customers if it requires an internet connection to activate. im 99% sure it wont come to that, maybe to register the serial u do.

no man... so far steam requires internet connection... to do basically anything

an hl2 is for/with steam... so if you don't have an internet connection steam will just say unable to connect please try again later...

You know registering a serial is part of the "requires internet connection". Wink
But ofcourse you wont have to login everytime you want to play it. That would just be stupid. Im quite possitive that all you will have to do is authenticate the product you bought and thats it.
