Control the fate of the galaxy in the classic turn-based strategy game Captains that invites you to explore and conquer an entirely new space. Ultimately lead your fleets and captains to victory. The game features several distinct forms of game play, including gathering resources, role-playing, and strategy. The basic elements of the game involve developing a space station (space building structures that produce resources, captains or ships) and conquering the space with a captain leading a large fleet and using technology. You develop fleets composed of the squadron commander - Captain and space ship squadrons. When you take a space base, you can buy any of its buyable ships.

* The different kind of resources can be found mostly in asteroid mines and are gathered once a earth day. They are used to build up your captains and their fleets.
* Each fleet is led by a captain. More than 120 individual captains with biography. Each captain has unique characteristic
* Each specific space station can only raise the type of space ships appropriate to specific civilization
* develop cutting-edge technology and upgrade your fleet
* 3D animated world with crisp graphics, and storyline with side quests
* unique features of each race will make your game experience more variously • addictive RPG elements
* choose from over 200 technologies
* Battles occur when your fleet comes face to face with an opposing fleet or a band of pirates. Combat, which can occur either in open space or in space station backyards, against both neutral and enemy fleets, is the meat of the game. A new close-up of the battlefield then appears, placing your squadrons across from the approaching enemy. You select a specific target and attack for each squadron of your fleet.

I like it alot to be honest.

It's basically Heroes of Might & Magic in space.

Too bad you can't change the screen res (or at least, I can't find such an option) ?

I don't know about you guys but this game is really crap in my oppinion. It doesn't come near HoMM 3 in excitement etc. The text in the game and descriptions are also very poor ranging from unit description to special powers. Also not many units to choose from. They also made a stupid change that if a unit moves it cannot attack. This really sucks because this means you can either move in one turn or attack in tactical battle. So basicaly it's best to stand your ground and let enemy come to you. Graphics also leave a lot to be desired.

Sorry but this just won't do.

Fixed problem with it crashing non stop: im pretty sure its missing high res textures for some things. Put texture gfx to low and its fine.

As to the game being any good, well its shit. Most shallow unrewarding game play Ive seen, feels like i am playing a board game with pieces put in place exactly same each time.

Very Happy actually it was THE website for games back then, everybody's favorite stop, that was of course before they became commercial and offered a paying membership it was all free back then and their reviews actually had some sense except for that awful 9.2 score they gave Dark Reign, a 'bit' too high.

England-Croatia=2:3 take that England!

I tried it; first few missions are fun because everything is new. But it gets tedious fast: no descriptions for your units and you get full tech/unit access from first mission on. After first couple of missions just felt like I was doing the exact same thing over and over.

But you could argue that's what all games are..lol

Not on my favorites list.

Seems like a patch is near (http://forum.sfcaptains.com/yaf_postst68_11-Patch-WIP.aspx) ... maybe it will make this one playable ...

Btw, someone can tell me if there are single mission maps (just like homm5) or it's only a campaigns game ?

Judging from the still enormous complaints in the official game forum i believe it's still far away from being a polished product ...
Anyway thanks for the update Bruce, and i'll post my impressions when i'll have tried it ...
