Yeah the path finding with a formation is horrible, even more within a city or at walls, I try to micromanage every fucking unit to avoid that as much as possible.

If the game can't handle sending a group of 2500 people to one spot and positioning them accordingly in the formation they were when they started then it shouldn't allow you to select them or issue that order. Half-assed pathing programing is to blame.
It was an entire native mercenary army of 2 melee types. There was no need for micromanagement.

Don´t know about Medevial II, but its the same shit with GTA. Replaying San Andreas this week, and while i truly love the game, the A.I feels sooo far from finished.
And I understand, it isnt the easiest game to do AI for, with the world being huge and all, wich gives an unlimited number of situations that the AI can find itself in. But for fucks sake, when a character cant get inside/on a vehicle, when its standing RIGHT FUCKING NEXT TO IT, is pretty goddamn ridiculous. Happened a number of times now.
Having a character following you? Watch out, they can get stuck behind every goddamn object you can think of. From thrascans to fucking skyscrapers.

Yep. The only game I can think of that had the most polished, true to life AI would be FEAR. They used actual tactics like flanking and suppression - instead of having their hitpoints or reflexes buffed to unnatural levels like other FPS games. Only FPS where soldiers acted like real (albeit fearless) soldiers. Good job to the guy who was in charge of the AI there.
That said, I understand Medieval and GTA are on a much grander scale then FEAR. Still, 250 or so soldiers, according to game logic, act as ONE (the unit card), so I don't see why they can't follow simple orders with any degree of accuracy

Rainbow 6 Vegas had much better AI then FEAR, they're actually fallible. Plus the fact that your character is extremely fragile and doesn't have super powers makes the encounters alot more realistic in general.
