And I'm not talking these new 8800's which run everything max. I'm talking older cards like the 9800Pro which it's life never seemed to end in gaming.
As it stands my 7900GS KO is my king. Thing overclocks like a champ and still isn't a damn game out that it cant handle on high or medium/high.
I went from a radeon 7000 which did decent to a 9250 at the end of it's life so I couldn't vouch for it to an x800GTO which was downright horrible in every aspect of being a video card and was what made me decide to give up on ATI.

ya I think one of the most successful cards to date is the 9800PRO, that card was genious. Too bad ATI doesn't have that in them anymore, if they did I could honestly say nvidia would have quite the competition.

TNT2 was great back in the days and I had it for a pretty long time. My best buy however was the 9700 non-pro I bought and overclocked the hell out of. Lasted a looooong time...
The Geforce 2 GTS I got once held on for pretty long too
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

My Voodoo2 card
Otherwise, I must say my X1900 has been very long lived so far.

My 7800gt is serving me well whilst I hold off upgrading until the new nvidia's are released. My old GF3 Ti200 lasted a fair while too..

Wow, where to begin? When I upgraded my Voodoo 5 5500 to a GeForce 3 TI, it was like a dream. Then when I upgraded that to a 9800pro it was great... Then I bought a GF6600GT and that card was really amazing. It was well worth the low price. Shame nV didn't keep up with proper midrange cards (8600 sucks )...

If i have to choose i will take the first that i remember or the last one (all were OC to the max). |
Sensi I've a similar card now a 7950 gt ko superclocked 512 mb gfx card.
Seeing how you're older 7900gt was similar to mine and I'm after an 8800gt 512 mb card, what's the performance increase like?
Plus what cpu you using ?
I've got an oldish 4400x2 cpu? | I had an eVGA 7900 GT SC CO. The gain was huge, i am replaying all my games maxed out while it was not that great before.
Just have a look at some charts to see what it can gives you:
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=710&model2=1057&chart=298
my main pc specs:
Lian-li PC-V1200B PLUS II, Corsair 520W, GA-P35C-DS3R, Core 2 duo e6750, 4Gb DDR2 Crucial 1066Mhz, BFG 8800 GT OC2 -don't ask- w/ Zalman VF-900-Cu, vista x64/xp mce2005, WD Raptor and a bunch of HDs.
n.b.: i broke my BFG 8800 GT OC2 warranty on day one at the sound of the stock cooler, i put my good old zalman vf900-cu on it. Really take one from eVGA/ XFX if you wish to keep your warranty because you will want an aftermarket cooler for sure.

Edit: ...or of course a 8800 GT with already another -non reference cooler- fan in the first place, like this little Gigabyte GV-NX88T512HP:

Yes, I'm insanely happy with my 8800GT too. Definitely the most exciting video card I ever had. 9800Pro takes second place because ATi drivers were pretty crap back then.

My 8800gtx because I estimate it will pretty much be the undisputed champ for a record time without having anything close to competing(ignoring the silly ultra card). Sure the whole DX10 thing has taken off with a bumpy start(to say the least), but I figure it really has nothing to do with nvidia's killer architecture, but with MS and other devs laziness. So despite the dx10 hype and let-down, nvidia still came out with a card and chip that dominates everything before and everything now until it gets obsoleted by its replacement.
But yeah I'd have to go with the 9700pro I bought way back as a second. Again, killer performance with the latest features out there.
It really is too bad it seems Nvidia is at their peak while ATI is at a decline. If both companies were peaking, I couldn't imagine what awesome cards would be competing for dominance.
Core i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz | 6GB OCZ DDR3 8-8-8-24 @ 1600mhz | eVga x58 Mobo | 2 x eVga GTX 460 SLI | Intel X25-M + 3x Seagate + WD Black = 2.75TB | X-Fi Titanium | PCP&C Silencer 750 | G15 KB | G5 Mouse | G35 Headset | Z-5500 Digital | Samsung T260HD

My VooDoo2 card was awesome for a long time, but i think i had more use for a longer amount of time from my followup card namely Geforce 3 Ti200 (both cards were from ASUS btw)

voodoo banshee > gf1 > gf2 > gf3 ti200 256mb o/c (to 500 speeds) > gf6150 o/b > gf7300gt silent o/c 40% > gf8600gt
the gf3 gave me 3 years gaming heaven and is still working in my mates pc today - the rest i had for apx 1 year each before feeling the need for more speed. now waiting for 9600gt or 8800gt later this year. Since i got a 360 havent felt the need to keep up so much.

9800 pro that I put an arctic VGA cooler on - lasted me 2+ years before it died.
7800GT also lasted 2+ years before it died.
My 3870's have been my best bangs for the buck thus far - top end graphics at what is affordable to me.

9800 was probably the best bang for the buck i had
happiest i am with my x800xt , going on for 3 years now and can deal with most games still , getting HD3870 next week , the new bang for the buck king.
