Looking for "GOOD"! strategy or action games that are set in the Middle Ages. Already have Medieval Total War II, so i am looking for something different obviously Wink

Got one more week of holidays here, and as i am totally in to this period at the mo, well etc etc.

I think Age of Empires 2 went up to the middle ages.

Stronghold was OK.

I also seem to remember an RTS set in the middle ages with a demon invasion where you captured towers and castles to build up, but I'm bugerred if I can remember the name of it.

Not really into the genre so they don't stand out to me, but seem to remember enjoying 'em anyways.

Stronghold and Stronghold Crusaders.

If you like golden oldies, you'd LOVE Lords of the Realm II. One of the best games ever! The graphics are rather dated, but it's such an amazing game.

Anyone heard of this game "Mount&Blade"
Quote:
Mount&Blade is medieval style role playing game (RPG) with emphasis on realistic combat system especially cavalry combat allowing player to take role of knight, cavalry archer, foot solider etc. there are also numerous mods allowing player to become pirate, samurai and join any faction of Lords of the Rings!

Although still in beta it is available as shareware on official site and fully playable up to character level 6.

I was a huge fan of Dark Messiah Smile

The leveling system was pretty good but the inventory shit wasn't thought out very well. there was no buy system so depending on the style of character you wanted to make you'd have to find the hidden armor which was a pain in the ass and not very in order. Had to wait a few level before you get one set of armor while another set was given at the beginning.

Yea, Dark Messiah was a great game IMO, but its to much fantasy, at least for what I am looking for now
Also found a game called "Crusader Kings" from Paradox, same guys that did Europa Universalis, I guess its dry and poor on graphics, but great depth and game play

When you get into Knights of Honor, learn the strategy of it and how to earn good money, use this mod to make it play more realisticly. http://www.rome.webz.cz/KoH_Holy_Rome_mod.htm (you'll need pakman here http://forums.blackseastudios.com/showthread.php?t=210 ).
Also, the latest patch for it removes the protection.

In your first couple of games you'll find that countries move around quite a bit, like poland ends up in france and germany ends up in byzantia.. so on. The mod stops that behavior and adds some balanced difficulty. Also, if you end up in a war and completely own them, everyone will hate you, so take it slow and propose vassalage treaties/land turnovers and use spies to conquer big empires instead Smile

Mount&Blade, i've been a big fan of it for years, but the current version (altho pretty) lacks much of the gameplay previous versions had. The world used to be very good for allowing you to level up against tougher and tougher enemies, today you're forced into huge battles too early. I have no doubt it will end up a better game than it was, but I haven't wanted to play it more than a couple hours the last many months. So buyer beware - if you like the demo go for it, the combat is still excellent and it's still a very promising indie gem.

BTW epicly good thread thanks for starting it Very Happy

Crusader Kings + the new expansion Deus Vult. Its more an empire building kind of game which puts you at the head of your own medieval dynasty. You objective -> establish your dynasty as an medieval power house, get the best lands and titles. Whatever you like lots of possibilities. Graphics are not all that, its gameplay all the way.

t3 felt just cheap
but they're not really the middle ages
they're steampunk
there's way too few games set in the actual middle ages
nearly all are fantasy of some sort

um, its like the first hit on google when you search for it.

tried it a while ago, didnt like it at all, felt far too amateurish (which was expected ofcourse but..)

T3 wasnt cheap, its one of the most underrated games ever imo, has some of the best / most varied level designs/themes i've seen in a game. its more steampunk than medieval yes..

a real classic is ofcourse Darklands, but i doubt it'd be playable today..

WOW! just tried out knights of honor. Complex springs to mind, but I will hang in there!. Like the versatility of it, seems like a kick ass strategy game no doubt!.

Can't seem to find a "working" version of "Crusader Kings".

It was a great game but it didn't suit my obsessive nature.

I'd get side tracked killing people 1 by 1 and dragging of the bodies until the level was empty, and by the time I'd finished would have lost all motivation and plot of the level Smile

However recomended never the less.

Yeah I was thinking about those aswell, although if I remember rightly The Guild II was a complete bug ridden nightmare.

But some great suggestions in this thread - keep em coming Smile

the PS3 version was good, but keept locking itself up. They managed to solve that with the latest patch I heard though. The game itself can be alittle repeative as very mission seem to be the same (more or less). But it's fun to just run about climbing on things.
