First details revealed in PSW Magazine
The latest issue of PSW magazine, on sale now, features a huge world-exclusive first look at a very pretty-looking Just Cause 2.
The preview explains how the new game will differ from the original exploits of Rico Rodriguez: "The original Just Cause offered an original take on the open world idea, here was a tropical island free to explore ... It was exhilarating. It was tremendous fun. It certainly wasn't 'real'.
"Thankfully the sequel is going to be bigger, broader and crazier," says PSW. "There's no sign of Eidos tethering Rico to anything as boring as realism. If anything, the added zap of PS3 power behind the game has enabled developer Avalanche to push its ideas further still."
The game's lead designer Peter Johansson is also interviewed, saying: "We identified the key areas we wanted to improve for Just Cause 2. We wanted to make better use of our huge game world, enhance the stunts, improve the combat and reward exploration more.
"We feel we have been successful at that and created a true sequel," he added.
The game uses a new Avalanche Engine 2.0, which means bigger and better things for sequel. "Firstly the old island is out, as you'd expect. In its place is the island of Panau, a tropical paradise in South East Asia ruled over by the ruthless dictator Baby Panay," explains PSW.
"Rico's job is to infiltrate and destabilise the island and return with his former CO, Tom Sheldon, who has gone AWOL on the island and fallen in with Panay."
PSW says the story is pretty basic, but goes on to say: "It's the island and the game's structure that holds the real surprises. Sitting above the familiar jungle canopy is a range of mountains covered in snow and ripe for playing around on."
Just Cause 2 is being designed with more scope for exploration and experimentation than the original notes the mag.
Johansson explains: "We've ditched the concept of side-missions." The mag emphasises Just Cause 2's emphasis on free-roaming play.
"Freedom is something of a myth - again GTA we're looking at you. In Just Cause 2 freedom should be more of a reality. The side-missions are out. You'll begin the game with nothing but your Cuban heels and a winning smile."
Exciting stuff. The full preview can be read in the latest issue (#103) of PSW, on shelves now, along with some really pretty screens.

I dun even know WHY it got boring quick I mean it had everything and it was kinda better than GTA... but i dunno... it was missing something! Excitement was there. Gameplay was decent enough. It had it all and yet it just didn't last

It was pretty shit. Poor graphics compared to the console version, respawning guards over and over and shit physics.

was just cause the one where almost everytime you would hit something there wouldn't be a noise? Unless it was an oil barrel which would then explode.

GTA had the story and the atmosphere... hahaha that's what jc lacked. The atmosphere. you just didn't want to play after killing a few people GTA you could go on and on and on and it was grand! I liked it bit more than GTA cause you always had that adrenaline rush feeling and when you pulled off the stunts you felt good

I hope that they don't repeat all the wrongs from the first one.
The graphics, physics, stunts etc were nice and gave the game a wonderful atmosphere.
Still, enemies respawning (specially all the time, and 2 meters away from you made it fucking frustrating even if it were easy. Just a matter of principle, I rather have harder enemies and non-respawning), somewhat boring missions and extremly boring and non-variating side missions (just either run against roadblocks and shoot constantly respwaning enemies to free a village, or run against roadblocks and shoot respawning enemies to take over a drug lords mansion. Or run against roadblocks and shoot respawning enemies to take over airfields and army bases) didn't make the game a winner.
Also there were not much to do on the islands. Most of the map were just jungle and you couldn't do much in the small cities/villages. Just drive around.
The game had a good ground, but too little and too repetitive content.
Learn from the variation in side missions of GTA.
AND, add multiplay. If the map is too big for multiplay, make multiplayer maps limitied to smaller areas.
These kind of games are wonderful in multiplay, but all always seem to avoid mp in GTA-like games. And that sucks.

Game play didn't feel 'done' in the last game. The game as you guys said just missed much of the fun part. Driving cars for example was kind of dull, fighting was a bit uncomfortable, in many parts of the island i felt kind of emptiness. Dunno, I felt like the buildings were made out of cart board.
If they'll fix the flaws the last game had, this one may have a lot of potential.

I loved the first Just Cause, i completed everything in the game... everything.

I think the voice actor that plays your superior in Just Cause is the same as the fellow treasure hunter in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. So much for useless game trivia

There, proof
