HALF-LIFE 2™ HAS GONE GOLD

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 16, 2004) - Vivendi Universal Games announced today that Half-Life 2, the highly anticipated next installment in the best-selling and beloved franchise, has gone gold and will be released December 6th in North America, and December 20th in Europe.

“Half-Life 2 offers an unprecedented gameplay experience,” said Michael Rouling, EVP, Vivendi Universal Games. “It features the most advanced AI ever seen in a game, combined with state of the art graphics and sound.”.

Developed by Valve, Half-Life 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the best selling Half-Life title, named “Best PC Game Ever” by PC Gamer. By taking the suspense, challenge and visceral charge of the original, and adding startling new realism and responsiveness, Half-Life 2 opens the door to a world where the player's presence affects everything around him, from the physical environment to the behaviors even the emotions of both friends and enemies.

The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people he cares about are counting on him.

Half-Life 2 carries a suggested retail prices of $54.95 and has been rated “M” for Mature by the ESRB with descriptors for blood and intense violence. For additional information please go to www.half-life2.com.

What did they give money to Valve for?! A GAME! A game they are getting!

And every online game has cheats ffs. Especially when it's the most popular online game like CS and there's people like myg0t hunting for stuff to exploit in the game.

Valve owes a lot, actualy. The vouchers. Don't think that it wasnt 'included in the price' when we bought a 9800XT with the promise of having the game (over a year ago). I would say that with the money they made from ATI, invested, they made a lot of profit. And to me, that should be illegal. We all know what the game looked like a year ago.

Unless you mean that people should have *expected* to pay for something, but not get it. And don't say "well it will come out eventually", that's like saying that when you are borrowing money, you don't have to give it back (let's say you hold it for 80years). It's just plain dumb. Valve lied to everybody, and that's a known fact. Being a nerd or not has nothing to do with it. Some people just really dislike being lied to, no matter what. (And plus, if its only a game, why did they lie in the first place? It's only a game right?). That argument doesnt make any sense.

thats actually a problem between ATI and Valve... therefore if you are going to bitch its ATI that "owes us something" not Valve.

That's complete bullshit. When you take out a loan there is a term and a schedule of repayments. When you buy a video card and get a voucher for the game you know it could be delayed and you know you will get the game when it's released.

Also, companies lie to you all the time. The only difference here is it's a market where information about the products is more freely available.

Another point is that I doubt the price of the graphics cards actually went up due to this offer. More likely ATI offset the price of the deal with the increase in sales it would bring. Whatever the case was, you're getting the game cheaper than you would have had you bought it normally.

I bet you have paid for a game that was delayed a year, and never thought once about how they might have betrayed your trust because they didnt deliver their product to you when they said they would.

Games are delayed all the time, its widely understood that even a specific date from the publisher themselves is not gaurenteed. They should have taken charge quicker and declared it wasnt going to make september sooner, but they didnt, and thats the only thing you could hold against them.

The coupon holders will get their game, I'm one of them, and let me tell you I dont feel the least bit ripped off. I have HL2 sitting on my hard-drive and in less then a month I'll be playing it, using that very coupon...how am I not getting what I paid for, and how can you compare that to 80 years?
