Found this on gameware.at

in english:

you NEED a internet connection to play halflife2.
even single player.
that's fu*king insane if you ask me.
Hope it'll get cracked.

what else would you play, if you were to play HL2? its sp only on release, maybe a patch will come or maybe some mod authors will put a multi mode there, but in release form its sp only.

hmpf...if that stupid internet activation thing is true, you just have to wait for a bypass-serial crack to get the sp- game installed once you have downloaded the iso images Wink i' m convinced that it won't take the release group long to hack the sp hl. Since i own a coupon i'm glad to "activate" it the legal way. hehe, wtf, i seem to get soft-boiled on my very old days Razz

Valve owes a lot, actualy. The vouchers. Don't think that it wasnt 'included in the price' when we bought a 9800XT with the promise of having the game (over a year ago). I would say that with the money they made from ATI, invested, they made a lot of profit. And to me, that should be illegal. We all know what the game looked like a year ago.

I returned my XT but kept the voucher. I win.

Q. Will the boxed versions of HL2 require any sort of Steam installations?

Doug Lombardi: During installation the user will be prompted to authenticate the copy and create a Steam account. After that is complete, the single-player and LAN games do not require an Internet connection,

So I guess you need a internet connection for the installing part.

read more about the things here http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/half-life-2/558931p1.html?fromint=1

dude empiro will crack it before any of you kids get to run to the store and pay for it with your daddies money

i'm just worried because this game is advertised in a magizne and a lot of people who may not have a pc connected to the inet read the mag... so when they see hl2 is having awesome scors they buy the game and won't be able to install it/play it Razz

That was not what i was quoting you for Wink , you were talking about HL2 which is sp only. Day Of Defeat Source and Counter Strike Source is an enterily different ballcourt. Half-Life 2 is the followup to Half-Life which is story and sp based, not a multiplayer game although the original Half-Life had a multi player mode, the second does not.

I so hope it takes weeks before any group can release this.

All the shit this game has been through, all the long years, all the strife, and now all these high reviews and anticipation and you fuckers are just going to download it.

No fucking shame, all of you. Fuckin' buy it.

Ohh for god sakes people, it's just an internet connection. If you don't have one by now I guess it's time to get one. People seem to get so wound up about useless shit like this.

If you don't have a friggen internet account by now and want to play hl2 then worst case just get a free dialup account with popups, register the game and play offline!

Get with the times. DVD is not compatible with VCR which is not compatible with beta max!

Don't you just have to register your CDkey online?

If thats the case then you could just go to a library or internet cafe, to register. There really is no excuse for at least having some way of accessing the internet.

I totally agree with sTo0z, every self respecting gamer should buy HL2. I am going to buy the game myself, but if it get´s released b4 it hits shelves, i will download it to play it b4 i buy it. Also, i know that alot of people can´t afford this game, but atleast for the people who do have money, and like games, they should buy HL2, getting a free ride on this one is just lame.

I wonder if its gonna say you need internet connection for the single player at the back of the HL2 box under minimum requirements. That can put off lots of people from buying the game.

all good games should be bought, if its out before yea dl it play it and then when the offical hardcopy is out buy it. if your poor on the other hand as if you wasted all your money on hardware etc i dont know what to say except enjoy the game.

Q. Are there any plans for a standalone Half-Life 2 multiplayer part, deathmatch, co-op, somewhere down the line?

Doug Lombardi: Nope.

I thought the Sven-Coop team was working closely with Valve or something? I remember reading something like that, I sure hope they are still workin' on that.
