the suffering is a psychological thriller. i didnt find that scary mainly coz the ppl didnt look menacing. undying is so scary when u get little girl ghosts just appearing u shoot then realise its nothing reload then 20 dogs run at u.

well, its all dark, you cant see more then about 6 foot ahead of you with the flashlight on, and the flashlight is not unlimited...., without it tou cant see shit, its pretty scary when you start rearing those hunters, like metal hiting a solid surface hehe, and you cant see none, then all of a sudden he jumps from the ceiling righ in front of you, and you never know when a new monstrosity will apear
but then again i didnt played that many scary games to tell how more scary the suffering is, imo is scary hehe

Realm of the hunting was freaking me out. I was playing it like i normally play FPS. Shooting every monster so I could find out what to do next. Well, after shooting I was standing thinking what to do next, when I heard this ghoulish cry behind me, I turned around and nearly pooped me pants as some ghoulish fiend had risen from the ground and was in the middle of lashing out at me.

Nosferatu is the scariest game I can think of right now. Very dark, very good mood-setting music and sound effects, lots of scary situations. The Silent Hill series is also pretty good for that sort of thing.
Though most people don't think of it as a scary game, Half Life did a pretty good job of scaring me at certain points simply because of its immersiveness. It was the first game I'd played since I was a child that had managed to scare me.

#1 would be System Shock 2, and a close second would be Aliens vs Predator as humans, VERY scary.
Oh, can't forget Clive Barkers Undying!

The most scaring game ever was Undying, I just couldnt played it for long time because I couldnt handle the amount of scary stuff in the game... i was even afraid to use the stone, worried of what I might see... and the atmosphere make u shake... all the noises around u and all the wierd stuff going on, brrr... that must be the most scary game of all time following afterward system shock, also very spooky...

The scariest game for me has to be the original Thief. Those hooded skull faced guys walking round the haunted cathedral map is the most realistic fear I have ever experienced within a videogame. I can still hear the chainmail clinking in my head! *shudders*
I've got Thief3 but only played upto The Mansion mission. I keep hearing about the Cradle Asylum. Is it really THAT bad?
I know it never made it to the PC but on the PS2, Project Zero or Fatal Frame as it is also known had a fairly high fear factor!
May the NFOrce be with you always.
