Hello Guys!
Im an international student from Israel (not yet international).
But actually i plan to study abroad, 99% that it will be Germany.
Don't ask me why, i think this is the best option for me, because US,UK,Canada & co. charges tuition fee for about 10,000-14,000$ per 4 months of school terms. o_0 crazy..
German Universities take no tuition even if im international (foreign) student (correct me if im wrong). Now i know they take only:
1) Semesterbeitrag (150-230euro) per semestr
2) Studiengebuhren (500euro) per semestr
+ plus
Living costs (700+ euro per month)
I have some questions to you, if anyone can figure something out for me (just one call to the university or to any friends that are in there)
1) Is there any FREE universities? (i know that free is only a cheese in a mouse trap, but anyway, i should try, because legal work is not allowed more than ONLY 90days per YEAR, its hard for me to pay when i dont work enought).
2) If i, as an foreign student will apply to a "black" work, is it possible to not get caught by.. whoever does it? I mean, illegal, so i could at least get money for myself, im not a lazy person, i want to work and study, but they allow only 90 days per year, it's only about 5500euro if the MINIMAL wage is 8euro/hour, but there's some places that pay only 5euro/hour
3) What University you suggest? I need Computer Science & Medicine Faculties. For my Girlfriend too.
4) Im taking german language courses here in Israel now, i want some "Messenger" friends to practice and would be nice to talk with someone, so you are welcome to leave your IM addresses.
p.s Sorry for:
* Large text with no sense for some of you
* Sorry for being that "naiv" but its my only way to get Diploma, Israel is sux at academic studies and very hard to get in universities.
* Whatever you'd liked to see here.
Hope to get some answers. "spotte" messages im not reading, so dont waste your time. Thanks a lot for your time.

Germany is split in federal states and since the Studierengebühren are quite new not
all states have applied them yet. As far as I know Brandenburg and Berlin didn't apply
them yet which means that you'd be able to study without paying there.
To illicit work - german government doesn't like it but they can't look for it everywhere.
In a big city like Berlin you'll be able to find a illicit job very easily and chances are low that
you are going to get caught. But if you do get caught you're gonna have some serious
problems.
Not because of the danger of getting caught but more because of the inferior reliablity
illicit work has I'd rather look for a different solution.

How's your German?
Sun Tzu says: "Go to war, but first have lunch. The wise general would try the lamb, which is fresh and a great price".

I'm not sure what you're implying, i worked part time through college to make a living and cover all fees. Don't you think it's unfair that German students have to pay the tuition fee regardless of their financial situation, while foreign students don't, even if they have the means. But this won't last for long anyway, the German legislature is always coming up with new taxes and fees to get more money out of your pockets, they must have missed this, i'm not even sure if they have fixed this in the meantime.
@Fratyr
Why do you want to take the risk with illicit employment, you could lose your status/visa? Just apply for a work permit.

I believe you could support my words.
1) Medicine - impossible in Israel
2) Computer Science - only 2% of citizens gets 720+ Psychometric grade.
So, we all should think about our future and move studying abroad. Israel's goverment, with all my respect to them (partically) dont want us be academic people! Damn it!
LexLuger - im studying german now. |
well actually, about computer science there are several good colleges, and if you are very desperate on studying in a university, then you only need 610 psychometry and 90 avg in the bagrut.
so hows that?
check out "ahava" college , they have something I might try this year, coz of my low bagrut grades.
you do the first year, and get avg of 70,and then complete the rest of the years (2) at ben gurion university.
you get a BS.c from the ben gurion university at the end.
I might do that this year.
P.S : my brother did that,he's now studying CS at ben gurion.
he also surfs this site .... with this nick, but only from time to time.

Since we've spent roughly the same amount of time in university I was just wondering how much debt you accumulated I worked part-time during the year and full-time during the summer as well, still wasn't enough. Tuition alone was ~$3500 per term for me (2 terms per year undergrad, 3 per year masters), so I can't imagine affording the international fees. I should say that a lot of people's parents pay a good portion of it here, I was not as lucky.
oh and yes, if your going to have near-free tuition by all means citizens first, but international tuition should at least be reasonable (which is is not at all here).

You actually have to pay for university education in Canada? That's fucking bullshit. And i thought *I* was getting the shaft because i was forced to buy my own books and shit. Here in Sweden, your only expense is buying the books for your classes, which comes out to about 600-700 euro per year. Ypu get about €250 per month in student aid, and if you want, you can also take out another €400 in loans per month. So if you take tha max ammount of loans, you'll only end up with about €24k in debt, for a 5 year education. But if you're lucky enough to still be living with your parents, you can get by with less than the max loan, and only require the aid, and a small portion of the loan. I'm lucky enough to actually live in the same city as my uni. So i don't need to take out the full loan. But at least half the people in my class had to move here from another city, so they need to take the full loan since they had to get their own apartments.

ah ok, now i get you Luckily i have no debts from college. My parents couldn't help me either, but like you said, during my times at college it was near-free tuition. I had to pay €500 as a penalty for each term because in the end it took me too long. I was working two days a week and going to college for three days the year through, that's why it took some time, also went abroad to the US for a year, got sponsored Usually college takes longer in Germany than anywhere else.
But you have to consider that taxes are exmtremly high here, from last years €2.500 christmas bonus roughly €700 ended up in my pocket, the rest was taxes. That was the general idea behind tuition free education, high taxes after college. The assumption used to be that grads get higher income and therefor pay higher taxes, but that's not the case anymore. A lot of graduates are unemployed or have low income service jobs.

whoa, that is indeed quite a bit. We get end of fiscal year bonuses, but that is only taxed at the marginal rate which is 31.15% (applies to income earned between ~$38K-72K) ... my average tax rates is only 22% though ...
