Hi!

I've got Gigabyte M61SME-S2 sAM2 mainboard with athlon 64 5200+

I'd like to buy GeForce 8800 GT (galaxy probably) and I wonder if it will work on this mobo?

Also I'm worried because the card is quite big (I mean long and high) and I don't know if it will fit the mobo without crushing off some radiators etc...

PLEASE HELP...

well, I checked your motherboard's specifications and vga support lists.

Gigabyte says your motherboard officially supports the gigabyte 8800 GTX which is larger than any 8800 GT as far as I know.

If you're still worried, get any 8800 GT with the reference cooler (the galaxy apparently uses a dual slot cooling solution)

Most 8800 GTs come with the nvidia stock cooler which is pretty slim, and it should fit into pretty much any mobo.

edit-----
it's only the Galaxy 8800 GT HDMI which uses a larger cooler. the normal galaxy 8800 GT apparently uses a stock cooler as well, so you should be fine with that.

Thanks for your help. The one that I intend to buy looks like this

I am also worried because of the PCI-E 2.0 backwards compatibility issue. Do you know what version of pci does my mobo have?

PCI-E 2.0 is backwards compatible with all previous PCI-E versions, there is nothing to worry about.

The card should fit but the cooler might block one pci slot.
Judging by a picture of your motherboard, there should be nothing in the way of the actual card though.

hmmm... interesting.
Well, unfortunately, I'm unable to find any information regard the PCI-E slot version of your motherboard on the manufacturer's website.
Sorry :/
