Strange, one would think they would find a publisher/funding. They were a really pro studio.
EA will probably hire some of the ppl and have them work on the next sims crap, just for kicks.
P.S.: And what happens to Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War -- Soulstorm ?

Sure it was.... and they only made 2 games and 1 expansion pack. If piracy makes you close your doors like that and THQ does nothing about it then you must have sucked.

I agree, piracy probably wasn't the only reason why they had to close down. But I'm sure it had some part in it. Here's a post by a dev of Titan Quest with his views on it:

Lol, I took a look in that thread and omg !
They implemented securom-related checks in their retail of the game, and then they blame the RLD "bad" crack for creating rumors about the game's instability and ruining their initial sales , lol ! Hence the piracy bullshit, as if the game wasn't buggy at all.
So that's why they dropped securom. And STILL they used a perfectly retarded and useless simple dvd-check in all their later versions of TQ and TQ:IT, again forcing their customers to use cracked exes or having the poor dvd in the drive.
They failed miserably, good luck with their next job positions.

Two, the numbers on piracy are really astonishing. The research I've seen pegs the piracy rate at between 70-85% on PC in the US, 90%+ in Europe, off the charts in Asia. I didn't believe it at first. It seemed way too high. Then I saw that Bioshock was selling 5 to 1 on console vs. PC. And Call of Duty 4 was selling 10 to 1. These are hardcore games, shooters, classic PC audience stuff. Given the difference in install base, I can't believe that there's that big of a difference in who played these games, but I guess there can be in who actually payed for them.

I have no fucking idea. Googling reveals nothing =/ Read through the comments a bit. People raise legit points about securom silently exiting instead of saying a pirated copy has been detected and we will now proceed to fuxxor your computer.

Ahh, well his figures were exaggerated, but not by much Bioshock and Call of Duty 4 were both outsold on x360 in relation to PC at something like 3:1 and 5:1.
HOWEVER, THESE FIGURES COME FROM THE NPD GROUP AND THUS DO NOT INCLUDE STEAM AND DIRECT2DRIVE SALES!!
So who really sold the most? Well, Valve doesn't release Steam sales figures so Noone knows =/

Maybe they should have discovered they sucked ass at developing and their games were boring as shit. How can they complain COD4 and Bioshock had good figures and they didnt? Those two were actually WELL DEVELOPED.

I really liked TQ. We don't really know who or what's to blame here, without any hard info, so please don't use this as a platform to start another piracy flame war.

It was? Maybe in Mahjong Solitaire 2008 Online! I never noticed any difference in the few games I played online. :/
Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.

Thats YOUR opinion, alot of people (me included) really loved Titan Quest and its expansion. Perhaps because i never had the dreaded crashbugs that alot of people were suffering from, for me it has always been a flawless bugfree awesome hack n slash.
If a bugfest game like Sacred can get a sequel, why cant this? Nowhere near as buggy, ten times smoother controls, ragdolls and awesome smooth graphics, and a much more appealing mythology (4 actually, greece, egypt, babylon, hades).
Sacred was awesome dont get me wrong, but Titan Quest was better. I dont understand why so many ppl bash it? Did you have tons of bugs or something? A fucking mystery me and my friends had none then, eh?

This might be why...
Quote: | I remember reading a post on the TQ forums from one of the developers... From what I understand, THQ's contract stipulates that THQ takes 100% of the profit until marketing costs are recouped. After that point, the developers get a cut. That would explain why awesome initial sales don't necessarily translate into developer profit.
I'm going by memory here, so don't take my word for gospel. |

I really enjoyed TQ for about 12 hrs but i could never continue to play -- the story just wasn't very compelling for me. There was a lot of things they did right in that game but for me a hack slash that doesn't have some amazing story to keep me clicking goes to the bin rather quickly. I realize some people probably liked the story but for me it just wasn't enough to keep me going.

Agreed.
I am very sad about these news
I have to admit, I bought it AFTER the initial release has been fixed from all the bugs, balance and performance problems.
But TQ was an excellent game I am still playing - none of the other wanna-be-ARPGs came even close to TQ/IT, neither Sacred nor crap like Silverfall or Loki.
Every day I am playing I am surprised how well it has "aged", these fantastic animations and gfx (even after 2 years) and love to details are outstanding. The only thing I did not like was that only two player models were offered (the female was OK, but the ugly male was really not that pleasing) and that the dungeons were not random-generated.
The only ARPG I had same (and long) fun with was Dungeon Siege 2 (well, was slightly different due to the party management) in the "after-Diablo-era".
