PCGH: When porting for the PC have you thought about integrating support for DirectX 10 into the engine? Will there be a version of Assassin's Creed that will utilize the new Vista API?

Charles Beauchemin: Yes, Assassin's Creed supports DX10 as well as DX9.

PCGH: What are the technical advantages of that API?

Charles Beauchemin: DirectX 10 enables us to make fewer calls to the API to perform the same actions. Therefore, it will be possible for the drivers to make optimizations making the game faster without any change to the game engine. Since most of the DX10 drivers are still young, we can expect a lot of gain to come from the optimization of these drivers.

PCGH: Do you use advanced features of Direct X 10/Shader Model 4 like Geometry Shader, Virtual Texture Management etc.? Can you please give examples how they are utilized? In what way do these features improve or simplify the rendering process?

Charles Beauchemin: No. Most of the porting to DX10 involves optimizations of the existing calls, without any new content.

PCGH: Will the DX 10 visualization differ substantially from the graphics that are rendered with DX 9 hardware? What are the visuals that can only be rendered with shader model 4 hardware? Can you supply us with a visual proof via screenshot too?

Charles Beauchemin: No new content has been added to the DX10 version.

PCGH: How much of a performance hit will the improved optics of DX 10 incur? With all details maxed out is a typical first gen DX 10 card already running at its limits?

Charles Beauchemin: No performance hit occurs, since no improved optics are implemented. However, when running on Vista, DirectX 10 version speed will be much faster than its DirectX 9 counterpart (also running on Vista)


They are full of shit then, because there is an obvious performance hit between the two modes running this game.

When Procyon got the source, 1 render file was obviously corrupt or became corrupted. The same corrupt file was supplied by Procyon to Reloaded. Either no group noticed the corruption or they let it go out with the bug, thinking they’d rels early for points and then be able to fix from resupply.

Problem is, the corrupt file is also having the effect of making the game unstable. And no resupply has yet arrived.

You can bet your bo11ocks that Vitality wont issue a crackfix, cos there is nothing to be fixed.

What will happen is a proper will come of size around 1GB which will be the scimitar.Jerusalem.forge replacement and possibly another corrupt file.

In meantime, you can collect flags. “

For those running Vista 64, dx10 and 8800 series, you might want to try 174.12 - they game runs smoothly on them. ( e6600, 8800gt, 2gb ram, vista x64 Sp1 )

Okay here goes, there seem to be 2 corrupt .forge files, not only Jerusalem.forge, but also another file called arsurf.forge. Neither start with the Scimitar code.
The Jerusalem.forge corruption is obviously causing you to crash to desktop when attempting to enter Jerusalem, and I think the Arsurf.forge file is responsible for the crashes which seem to occur randomly every now and then.

Furthermore, this will NOT, be fixable by crackfixes or anything like that, expect at least a 1 GB big proper Jerusalem and Arsurf fix.

What's funny is that usually the scene is very uptight about nuking releases even for small mislabel issue. Yet, this reloaded release is clearly not final but preview release pre gold release thats missing part of the game. Yet this release is not nuked at all, even though its clearly mislabeled. It should be labeled pre gold, beta, etc...

I aggree with DJSatane... Many people look Nforce.nl if a release is nuked or not, so after seeing it is not nuked, they keep downloading this release... Then, they face with several errors like us and keep asking the same questions here and many other forums...
So, I think that this release must be nuked...

I talked to a guy on another forum, and he said he performed the Jerusalem assassination without any problems, but that the game crashed when he tried to enter Acre.

I would be satisfied if just the crashes could stop for now. It's kind of fun lurking around on the rooftops, jumping down, killing a guard and disappear down the alleys or back up on the rooftops. However, I can't really be bothered starting the game up when I know it will crash after half an hour in the middle of an interesting fight or escape most likely.

There are already uploaded XBox360 jerusalem.forge files. I wasn't able to download them Very Happy well, somebody with a faster connection could try Smile But I think that it won't work. I mean almost everything needed to be changed from XBox360 to PC.

Im in "Acre" I think it's called... nice game so far but as I said when I played it on xbox for 30 mins.. very repetetive playstyle.

I wish the clinbing was more like Tomb Raider, would have made things much more interesting instead of button mashing without fear of missing a jump Sad kinda makes climbing a chore instead of a method

As I've said before, I love the game. It has plenty of faults, and it failed to reach it's massive potential yet it still accomplishes many things we've never seen in a game before.

The massive 'living' cities, the complete freedom of movement and finally the integration of a real physical presence for you character. So many games have characters sliding off each other when two characters collide. It's a big step in my opinion, and lots more games are now picking it up, GTA4 included.

And yes.. it crashes every 1/2 hours to me too Sad and i get a white screen when entering jerusalmen Sad




For the ones who have vista x64, 174.12 works fine.

Yeah, you lose 'synchronization', which is equilivant to the health bar when you kill an innocent, but it soon regenerates. I frequently kill the lepers/drunks/crazies when they start pushing me, and if you are completely unknown to the guards they don't even attack you for this. You can beat the beggars and start fights with thugs too, as long as you only use your fists.

Acre is easily the best city in my opinion, the middle eastern style of the others is boring, especially Damascus. Theres a real contrast between the wealth of the different area's, there are loads of templars lurking around and the dock is great fun to have a chase through. Plus, that cathedral is probably the tallest building in the game, an incredible view. A bitch to climb too which makes it more satisfying when you reach the top!

Fraps is kinda bugged in xp, in vista works fine.

Still... i get 25-30fps with all setting max @ 1680x1050 in vista.

This leak is just like a huge demo, I bet they know their potential sales will drop when people actually get a chance to play it. Not that it's a bad game, but it's just so many people were disappointed with the 360 version I can't see it being any different with the PC version.
