I like SC1. At that time it was nice game with nice graphics and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed C&C1. However I can't say I enjoyed for example C&C3 the same way... It didn't bring anything breathtaking... So I'm asking you why such high expectations from SC2? What revolutionary does it bring?

and i don't really want something revolutionary in it to be honest. If they keep the same formula it can't be anything than great

so you would accept something like Starcraft 2008 (or whatever year of release) only? just up-to-date graphics and new units like new tank with three instead of two cannons and that's it?

Well I wasn't happy with WarCraft III but thanks to a certain group of Koreans it looks like Blizzard are keeping things in check for the sequel to StarCraft. Still, proof is in the pudding, need to play games like this to appreciate them in my opinion.

Honestly? Yes. Thought I'd prefer a more faithful update I'm scared of the risk of it turning into something I wouldn't like so I'd be happy with a simple update.

Well yeah...that and a good campaign would be beautiful. I think that there's no way you can really improve it gameplay-wise (except adding 1-2 minor updates and that's that).
So i'd rather they keep the old gameplay than introducing new and "revolutionary" feats that will most likely ruin the game for us.

As long as they don't try to do what so many other sequals has done wrong i'll be happy. Usually they update the graphics add or fiddle with a few tanks or whatever and change the storyline but really it's the same beats and everything so it's basicly the same game labeled as a sequal (same thing applies to movies with a few diffrences obviously).
No as long as they try to make the best game they can and don't try to forcefully put in old plot twists "in new clothes" (bad choice of words but i hope you guys/girls understand what i mean by that line) i'll be happy. I'm really not expecting this to be the most amazing game i've ever played in the history of gaming, i just want a good game that has a good storyline and fun gameplay.
I loved the story and gameplay in SC1 so hopefully they will deliver that in SC2 as well.

the one reason i liked sc (and wc3 for that matter) so much, wasn't really for its core game (vanilla if you like), but the endless numbers of custom maps (and custom settings). Just look what people can do in wc3 script wise (rpg's with save char codes and what not). I don't know any other game, that can be customized that much, simply by scripting stuff in the editor.

It's done when it's done.
But it's too early to say if it'll be "pushed back" to 2009, as it stands now there's plenty of room for release this year, and with the rumor of the beta starting soon it's possible we might even see it at the end of Q3 2008, of course they'll probably intentionally delay it until thanksgiving for better sales.
They'll probably also want to stay clear of the WotLK release, which might be around summer.

Starcraft are one of the few games with a good story that's well executed. That's worth it enough, as with every entertainment medium being a platform for a good story.
Secondly the map editor. 'Tis pro.

Tauren Marine
Trains From: Mulgore
Armament: 88mm Impala Gauss Rifle
Role: Shock Troops
In the old Confederacy, terran marines were mostly criminals or rebels who had undergone mandatory neural resocialization. Freed from any previous allegiances or ideologies, these fearless soldiers stood ready to defend Confederate interests with their lives but exhibited an annoying tendency toward petty larceny, vandalism, and occasional cannibalism. Confederate authorities were unable to requisition enough reliable troopers in this way, and eventually recruiters turned to a new source of fresh meat for the grinder.
The obscure planet of Azeroth was found to harbor a dizzying selection of humans, mutants, and aliens in a state of perpetual superstition and conflict. The most physically imposing of these warrior races were the so-called 'tauren,' an anthropomorphic bovine genotype with super-human stamina, overpowered racial combat abilities, and bizarrely well-developed horticultural skills.
While most tauren were satisfied with their agrarian culture and primitive existence, the Confederacy was able to lure away large numbers of young bulls for a life of adventure and violence along the galactic rim. Other tauren referred to these adventurers as 'mad cows,' and they were ostracized from the rest of their kine. The newly created tauren marines didn't care--they got neat-looking armor and big guns to own everyone else with. These beefy new soldiers are now an integral part of the Confederate military, and have managed to horn in on the roles traditionally filled by firebats and other infantry units.

come on, they must be joking..... i mean, it's ok having zerg bulls but terran bulls used in combat??? this sucks.
but there's a good side also: at least no one will starve to death. they can always "milk" the bulls if the other units need food
