the reviews for that movie are all somewhere between the lines of horrible to terrible.

guess I'll pass that one.

the movie is not terrible, is a mediocre movie, and definitely not worth watching it on cinema.

the movie is worth to see only for the awesome visual effects, and Camilla Belle Wink

Into the wild : Very interesting movie. 8/10

The orphanage: 6/10. It was OK, but too few scares in a two hour movie.

The Orphanage 9/10 - Excellent atmospheric and scary horror movie about a woman that moves back to the orphanage she grew up in to start her own. A fresh movie in a horror genre that is overcrowded with asian remakes and torture porn, but that is all from a different continent. The Orphanage is Spanish and is one of the few great horror movies I have seen in recent times.

I watched this last night after seeing this post, and I agree, really good horror / thriller film

You dont understand the hate? It totally rapes the books into pieces that's why. The books are some of the best, if not the best, comedy i've ever read and on top of that it's great sci-fi. The movie is decent on its own i suppose but it's omits sooooo fucking much that is in the books. It really should have been a three parter.

If you havent read the books imagine if the Lord of the Rings triology would have been a two hour movie instead. It would suck cause so much would have to be cut. That's what i felt like when i saw the Hitchhikers guide.

Anyways, for me:

Death at a Funeral - 7/10 - Very nice british comedy.
Ghost in The Shell - 7/10 - First time i saw it, might grade it higher if i rewatch it a couple of times, still i dont see what all the fanboys see in it.

People should really learn to distinguish between books and films as separate forms of art.
You can only judge a work within it's system.
So saying a film was horrible because it didn't do the book justice it was based on doesn't really count.

Well, all I'm saying is that it worked for me. As a film. No, I didn't read the books. But this should be a plus since I saw a film that I liked a lot and not a version of the book I read without the parts that I liked or imagined otherwise.
Oh, and Douglas Adams was part of the screenwriting process, so at least he approved the script. I guess Smile

That's pretty much what i said, the movie is all right on it's own. But the people bashing the film are the ones who have read the books. And saying that you can only judge it within it's system isn't really fair, it is an adaptation after all which for me very much puts the books well within the movies system.

All i was trying to do was explain why people are hating on the movie.

Here's an abstract example. You're on a summer holiday and you get to do tons and tons of fun stuff. Parties, swimming, scubadiving, exploring the jungle, pet dolphins, para-sailing and so on.

You take pictures and videoclips of lets say 20% of the things you experienced.

When you get home and show it to your friends they say "Wow that parasailing looks like alot of fun" and while you agree that it was fun you feel bad that you cant show them the dolphins or the late night parties with all those topless models.

It's the same way with this movie it only shows you such a small part of a greater masterpiece and while what it does show might seem terrific to someone who didn't read the book, it's just an empty shell to the ones who did read it.

You're right. Hell, we're both right. (Hurts, huh?)

Hey, maybe people should start watching movies to remember how awesome the book was.

Just like they look at pictures to remember the awesome vacation on Hawaii where they lost their virginity. (With a hooker. At age 42).

Very Happy

Yeah i agree. And i was about to add that the great thing about the movie, except that it is a good movie on its own, is that it might open the eyes of people who never read the books Wink

Well enough of this discussion now i think Smile

Just saw Lawrence of Arabia, such a great film, another true classic (i watched Bridge over the river Kwai a few weeks ago) that i've had the privilege to enjoy in juicy 720p and 6.1 DTS. 10/10
