I had my box for 2 years and with the first ever firmware for an Hitachi drive (don’t ask me which version as I don’t know ) and I didn’t update the firmware at all, I wasn’t banned for those 2 years. My friend went and played gears of war on live and the next day I was banned. I bought another 360 and this one had a BenQ drive (with the latest firmware) and I’ve had this box for about 3 weeks and I haven’t been banned at all yet. I’m being careful at the moment as I do like downloading demos and videos but that’s it I don’t play my games on live, I check the iso's I download making sure they are all patched and I also make sure I don’t leave my discs in the drive while browsing live.
I like bum.

Using the pretty old Xtreme 4.2 firmware, not banned, because I never play burned stuff online or connect to live with a burned disc in the tray.
When I wanna check out a demo or something I just start it up without any disc in the drive.
works fine.

Why do they ban? People have to pay for Live Gold anyway. Why should M$ care if they play on copies? Console games sell pretty well anyway.

Why does Microsoft get up in the morning, because of money, they only ban your conosle and not your account and most people are hooked on the whole thing by then so they just go out and buy another console, pretty clever you have to admit

Yeah but when you buy the games you pretty much read every review to see if its worth your money. But when you download, you dont really care, if the game sucks, so what you spent dvd and BW downloading it. I have a lot of games that i played only once and they are gathering dust now. I have about 10-15 games and if i didnt have a choice of dling them, i wouldve probably bought about 3 of them and beat them. Some games are just worth buying even if its SP only (ala GTA, but now it seems it will have a kickass MP so doesnt really count, but i'll still buy it even if i cant play online).

doesnt realy help you since the box saves all media data and transfers it on connect.
|
if that's really the case then why am I not banned? Every disc I ever had in my 360 was a burned 360 game and I've connected to live many times.
and xtreme 4.2 is not secure at all anymore. if I were to connect with a game in the try I'd probably be banned instantly.

Banning people is mainly a way to keep people from modding their consoles.
Had there been no threat what-so-ever of being banned from Live, I'd had my console modded straight away and I bet you that your avarage gamer agrees.

You guys should try doing what i did.
Trade your modded 360 with someone you know for their not modded 360, toss in some of the newest games to sweeten the deal, and then mod your new box. And boom just like that youre back on live.

They don't use live or what?
Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.

did ya actualy read what those firmwares do?
the big change from xtreme to ixtreme was just to implement some checking if the disc was properly patched. + some other things in the later versions.
if ya never had any "bad" isos -> not banned.

there were more security changes than just not booting unsafe discs.
playing online with xtreme 4.2 will get you banned no matter what game you play.
playing online with ixtreme 1.4 on the other hand most likely won't get you banned at the moment.

many people are still online with xtreme X.X ... not true.

as said ... no difference. its all about media checking. even 1.4 didnt change that, they just added more stuff to check for "bad" rips (eg the ones created with crappy kreon drives).

Hey guys...I dont really type in this forum...Im most of a reader then a writer...but all I can say about this subject is that I had my box for a year and a half or so as up to now with the Samsung drive in it and one of the first firmware and Im still playing on live once in a while with my copies...guess Im one of the lucky ones still not ban...
Maybe like others say....its a question of time but hey...as for now, Im still enjoying once in a while a couple of MP games on live and still prefer single player overall but its fun sometimes to be able to look on live whats up there or whats comming out...
Cheers!

Ive never been banned but my xbox 360 no longer has picture. I need to fix the GPU with a heatgun. Id rather be banned than deal with this.

Mate of mine still not banned. We both bought machines at the same time. Both had Hitachis with the first firmware that became available. I got banned when it all kicked off with the Halo 3 beta. My mate still isn't banned and is online as I type this playing a copy of Rainbow Six Vegas 2.
Both of us get the same versions of any backups we played. Very strange how random this all is.

Any fix you attempt is only temporary, it's a shame you voided the warranty a long time ago.

I know it's temporary but my Xbox has no picture. If it was the 3 red lights of death, then I wouldn't have a problem with it. Takes me around 20 minutes to fix the 3 red lights. Ive got green lights at the moment.
Problem is a broken solder joint. Which is why I need to spend some quality time with a heatgun
