If they drop the enemy respawning madness it could be great... but I doubt it

They won't cos it's a question of replayability. Roaming through empty locations isn't fun.

Aside from the retail release there will also be a Steam release, makes sense since the original game is also on Steam. Smile

It seems the retail publisher will be "Deep Silver" (Which is part of Koch Media.) aside from a few Eastern-Europe countries in which I assume the game will probably be published locally by GSC themselves as happened with the original Stalker.

Worthplaying
(There's three new screens as well.)

That doesn't quite sound right. THQ owns GSC, why wouldn't they publish STALKER Clear Sky?

Didn't THQ and GSC have tons of communication issues?

it was mostly from GSC's side Laughing Then THQ brought in Dean Sharpe to be able to release STALKER before 2020. Razz

But they didn't part ways, THQ still owns GSC afaik?

They split up a while ago, it's on the forums, will try to find a link to it.

EDIT:
Link

EDIT: This might only refer to Clear Sky though, unsure how this affected the original game.

EDIT: Fixed URL link, odd that their forum prevents links to it unless one uses the url button in the posts.

Q1 is a bit uncertain as well, based on posts on the official forums it's more likely to be "First half of 2008" albeit a likely release period seems to be around March - April.

EDIT: Said forums also contains a beta of the leaked 1.1 freeplay patch that seems to be in testing now. Smile
(A bit buggy as it's a beta version - made with the 1.0004 patch and not fully compatible with 1.0005 without some modifications.)

Any chance we will get big maps not limited with shitty fences or will it be the same old linear stuff with tight canyons? If this game came out on consoles as well I would blame them so much for it Very Happy but I can't, great development move, this game was born to be open instead I felt claustrophobic playing it.

You should also look here and here for info about this patch:
Link #1

Link #2
(Buggy and a bit old, only works properly with version 1.0004)

EDIT: I did try it myself but I'm back to other modifications now.
(This "Freeplay" gamemode isn't bad but there's not much too it, run around the zone and do tasks to increase your rank and standings with various groups.)

Hell no, considering that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. got delayed again and again and still didn't deliver the full experience as they were somewhat forced to release it by THQ it's good the developers are given more time to improve this prequel.
(Ofcourse it had to be released sometime but it did lead to various cuts in the game.)

Also there's a preview here that contains some more information about the game.
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=183715
(Sounds promising, hopefully it will be worth the wait as this is kinda how S.T.A.L.K.E.R should have been.)

New Q&A
http://stalker.filefront.com/news/Clear_Sky_Monthly_QA;37608

After the previous mess with the release date this should make people a bit happier.
Quote:

8. Will we see a demo before Clear Sky's publication?

No, there will be no demo version of Clear Sky. Not all that much time is left before the release, and soon you will be able to experience the full world of STALKER.

EDIT: Official release date confirmation.

They don't need to remove it, or you would be running around in an empty world in no-time, just make the respawn times a lot longer.

Or at least wait until you leave the area.

They only need to make it more realistic. Quite annoying when you kill 15 soldiers and a lot of dogs, walk into the red forest, as soon as you get there you turn around to discover that the place you just left two minutes ago is now again filled with soldiers and dogs
