Moved to correct forum.
You can install them both without any problems. Download a partitioning tool (I like Partition Magic 8, its about 2 years old but its fantastic!) .. create 2 new partitions, one for the OS with the format of EXT3 (needs to be at least 5gb, maybe larger though depending on how many apps you plan on installing).. and one that does the same job as a windows page file (SWAP format), so it should be around 1.5gb for an average system.
Ubuntu will do the partitioning for you if you want.. and it has its own partitioning tool you can use during installation, but I find this method easier!
Now just burn the latest version to a DVD and boot from it. Follow the instructions and it should pick up the partition just fine.. Just be sure to double check your not formatting the whole disk!!! If you are careful everything should be VERY easy.
As for linux, well there are thousands of things I could tell you.. Its just an OS.. Its different but not that different. ERmm.. Command line is your friend!

first of all, sorry for posting in the wrong forums,it was not in purpose, its just that when I always enter these forums,I automatically go to the "bitchin session"
so I basically dont need to use partition magic right? I can just download and follow the instructions... but is there any place where it will ask me if I want to keep my windows installation??
right now I have a total of 5GB of free space for installation on drive C.
thanks for the answer

And remember don't just copy paste cli code into terminals from forums if you don't understand what it does.
If you do that you might as well give away your ip and root password.
Linux is only as secure as you allow it to be, an ignorant user can make Linux just as insecure as windows.

I bet that in a week you'll almost never boot up linux. You'll actually regret the lost space and wipe the linux partitions from the face of the earth. Plz report back in a few days with your honest impressions ...

Because that doesn't use the systems full resources... I dont see the need to list anymore reasons..

It does when using C2D (or equivalent AMD CPUs). The virtualization technologies in those CPUs allow for maximum resource usage under VMs.

I meant full CPU utilization without too much layers in between.

That's not a computers full resources now is it? To run a desktop (on a desktop machine) in a VM is pointless for anything other than system testing.
