the XViD RiP was kind of nice and that's about it... nothing special. Cloverfield must be watched in theater on a huge screen and a powerful multi-channel sound system, not on a tiny computer or TV screen. JM5Cs.

Excellent movie, I actually liked the way it left you with questions which leaves more to your imagination.
So much better compared to the average movie where everything is pre chewed and shoved down your throat.

Probably waiting for people (fanbois) to become desperate and buy the DVD. Then an HD will come and same fanbois will buy that too.

Dude! That's not what I said. I said fanbois who can't embrace themselves and wait for the HD veision will buy the SD one, and then buy the HD one too.
Just like what happened with LotR. Theatrical cuts were out first, causing people to buy them, then when EE cuts came out 8 months later people had to buy them too.

cloverfield was supposed to be HDDVD exclusive, now it is delayed while they transfer over the format specific content (apparently there are a lot of extras in HD to tie in with the viral marketing) to Blu Ray.

finally got around to seeing it. definately overhyped.. average monster movie being shown in an uncreative way.. i did like one or two subtle things, and although weve seen this in countless other monster flicks, i did enjoy the ambiguity about it, which im sure was 50% done so that they can spawn a few sequels, but either way it was kinda good, but aside from that it was quite boring and full of unlikable characters. one or two nice sequences, some of the action sequences were nicely handled, but aside from that, they definately failed at trying to make the film 'seem realistic' - everything felt staged and fake, and i dont just mean because it was obviously not real because its a movie - too often things felt too unrealistic and obvious, given the 'real camera' gimmick they were trying to use.
for the eventual sequel, i hope they can do better than this.

ROFLMAO! Watching it now. What's these little creatures, they're like face huggers from the planet Pingu.

You're absolutely right. I mean the question it left most in my mind is, "Why the hell am I watching this shit."

Yes it was, I mean they scrimped and saved by not having a cameraman or a script writer. So where did all the money go, because it sure as hell wasn't on the effects.

i liked mist, but cloverfield is way way worse. as a horror film it wasnt good, the acting and dialogue were poor by any standards, the camera gimmick has been used many times before, and there were only like a total of 6 or 7 minutes worth of cgi monster stomping in the entire thing... i just honestly dont get what people saw in this.

Actually it didn't, it was from the Marianas Trench, the deepest part of the ocean. The object that fell to earth was a satellite, which was responsible for awakening the creature.
The budget was only $30,000,000 compared to $130,000,000 for Godzilla (1998). The effects were fantastic considering the budget.

i dont know where you got that from or if your making it up or taking the piss, but if that turns out to be what happened, then the film just got more idiotic than i originally thought it was

a satellite falling from the sky magically and conveniently waking up a sea creature is DEFINATELY pushing it way more than an alien creature when taking it in the context of a monster film!
