So companies really hate when their stuff is torrented or ie. downloaded - pirated. IMO I actually think downloading helps sales because I for one will try games and if it worth playing I will go to best buy and pick it up. But of course there are a group of people who will just keep the downloaded copy and never make a purchase. Now, I suggest these companies offer a free downloaded copy of the game but make it somehow delete itself after 24hours or something to that extent. But I can see why this won't happen, because if the game is crap it will hurt sales so it's like a fine line in the road... anyway DISCUSS!

LOL!! Companies have been using self deleting files for years. Look at the BBC IPlayer that's in use right now.

I'm a cheap bastard. I only buy something if I want to play it online (and can't play cracked version in MP), and even then I usually wait for a few months until the price is reduced Razz

same the only games i buy are the ones i will play online for many many hours.

buying a game for single player just aint worth it when most games only last 6-12hours

lol, high priced business dude with lots of student loan debt Wink

but seriously, I try to limit some expenses ... buying games is one of them. I don't buy DVDs either unless it is some sort of collectible. Although I guess really going out to dinner with the gf + a couple of drinks is about the same price as a new game :/

You pirate people don't know how much damage you cause to the society...

I buy all my software, I don't play games (games are for kids&nerds in my opinion, I got better things to do than shooting monsters)

you cant really compare an OS to a game.

First of all, you buy the OS and you use it 2-3-4 years, so i agree, you should pay for it. The MS price is so high, they are stupid. Students can get it rather cheap (50euro or so), so i pay for it. upgrades, no worries about being blacklisted etc.

Games on the other hand. Djeez. I bought some games 10 years ago, Red alert, rollercoaster tycoon, simcity, age of empires, half life. I was 10-12years then. I saved half a year to buy a game, and i played it over and over and over. Duh it costs money, so enjoy it.

Then i discovered downloading... And i never bought a game, except the red alert stuff, (dad bought it, because he is red alert addicted and wanted the whole collection 'real'). And when you have xs to everything, you realise that you play games because they cost money. They are not that exciting or 'fresh' or 'cutting edge' new. Shooting is shooting, building is building, RTS is RTS.

Of course gaming industry sells less and less games, not because of piracy, but because of market saturation. The 20-25-30 yr old has seen every f*cking game 1000 times. Fifa 2008 is still fifa, yep 2007 looked like 2006 and 2005 etc etc. Noone will keep buying them. Yes a 12yr old will buy 2008 as his first and play that for 2-3-4 years. Then he will discover 2K9 or 2K10 and think 'too expensive' so he grabs it to check it out and probably think, 'meh, just the same, not worth the $'.

Im 23 now and i played every goddamn game that was released between 1998 and 2001. I still have the games here on cds. 800 games... I never bothered buying or even downloading a new one. Back then, Age of empires, CS, Rollercoaster, max payne, wolfenstein, commandos, medal of honor were kickass. Gimme some titels of games that are totally different than that?

So game companies (without mention names, *cough cough* EA, sierra, take two...). Stop blaming torrents for your decreasing sales. You push push push pushed with advertising some years ago when PC was coming up, so you saturated a whole generation at once. Of course you cannot keep selling selling. You forced your games into a 10-90 generation. Only a fraction is added to the "gamers spectrum" every year (the kiddies who become a teenager).

And they know that is the reason, but it is easier to blame piracy. Only the japanese have some pride and internal locus of control instead of blaming the outside for decreasing sales. They knew the market was saturated. They started developing Wii games for females, non-gamers, 40+ and they have the $$$. Wii is pirated as well, not? Friends of mine play Wii games ported on their PC with USB Wii controllers. I never hear Nintendo shitting on piracy, why? Because 90% of the casual gamer doesnt know shit about piracy and it is useless to blame then.

And btw, "entertainment" companies always blame piracy for decreasing sales. Maybe they should explain why total revenue is going up? "oh no, pc games profit is down and music cd profit is down". Buuuuut mp3 sale up, PS3 sale up, DVD sale up, Wii sale up, blablabla. Cant expect people to keep buying crap cds for 20euro if you can buy it on Itunes or get the DVD for 22euro. Yeah, blame piracy. Sony is still making music and games? Nintendo is stilling making Games? EA alive, yes Sad, etc etc. If it were all that bad, they wouldnt be alive anymore. It all is so bad that MS decided some years ago to make a console to get some money from a market "where no money is to be made because of piracy..."

Btw; dont buy MS shares, they will cut themselves with the YHOO deal. YHOO is dead, why will they spend 31$/YHOO share, Laughing. After all those lousy years, they managed to get a decent stock prices because of Vista, Xbox and decent corporate solutions management with innovative ideas. They sit on a huge bag of money and they have a bright idea "lets waste all our cash, dilute our stock and get leveraged in this oh so friendly credit climate and buy Yahoo". Next year the newspaper headlines will be "MS writes down 10billion because of YHOO". Laughing (end of side note Wink)

Being disabled and all now I simply can't afford the software. I would buy every single game I wanted otherwise... I used to do just that. Still if there is a game that I absolutely want and have high respect for the developers who made it I will sacrifice the things I need just to buy it. Infact I just saved enough money to purchase the orange box and thats been out for some time now.

If they ever find me and try suing me for some bullshit amount I would just divorce my wife so she won't get stuck with the tab and simply blow my brains out. No god damn point in living a even worse life. Epically if they want to throw me in prison for the copyright infringements.

thats bullshit... Game developers. You call designing 10000 zillion chairs and tables developing? I have no respect whatsoever for EA when they make another sims expansion (100MB or so) with some new chairs and some new tv sets you can place in your cute house. 50 $? never gonna pay it for some lame expansion
