Buy a special directionl antenna (like that spy mic from Splinter Cell or movies). It can pick up Wi-Fi from hundreds of meters.

Up to a mile I believe. They can also be homemade, I think.

I'd recommend you get a router which can be flashed with dd-wrt or another open-source firmware then setup the router in repeater mode following the tutorials. Also increasing the tx output level to about 80 or above. Can buy a directional antenna which can help to a degree but you really want to increase the power along with it.
but stealing net is bad mmkay

well i think its a rediculous law... one person is beaming a connection into another persons property, so it should be their right to use it if it hasnt been protected... just another example of a stupid law that hasnt been thought through properly.

not the same thing and you know it.
now if i parked my car in someone elses garage with the keys inside and the doors unlocked, then youd be in the same ballpark.
if the topic was about driving around and looking for wireless connections and sitting outside someones house leeching their connection, then yeah your example is correct, and in that case i agree that this sorta stuff should be protected against...
but if an unprotected wireless connection is being sent into your home, why should you not be able to use it? no hacking is involved, no secure information is being accessed, your simply using their connection to get online and theres no harm in it and your not blocking or denying THEM access from connecting either.
given that your example was way off the mark, i dont see how insulting me is really called for.

theres no harm in it? would you say the same thing if you had BT ADSL with the dodgy router thing they provide, it wasnt secured and one of your neighbours ran a child porn ring online using your internet? then you get classed as a pedo

now your talking about criminal usage... what if someone got hold of your personal details and misused those? what if someone tried to set you up by sending a criminal letter with your return address? what if someone hacked your pc? while the point you bring up is a serious one and yeah ill admit it is a BIT different than what i listed above, alll im trying to say is that if a wireless unprotected connection is being beamed into your house - YOUR HOUSE - why should you not be allowed to connect too it?
