eve-online isnt all that i dont know why people think it is, i played it for nearly 3 years and i was in some of the biggest aliances/coalitions of there times, and the only thing that keeps most people playing is the social side of the game and hanging out on teamspeak together.
combat is pretty crappy when it comes down to it you select the same target as 50+ people hit a few fkeys and keep doing the same thing until the node dies or your in a pod

Shadowbane probably had the funnest pvp I've ever played. No instances, kill anyone, anywhere, Siege warefare, player built cities, and its FREE. Unfortunately, the servers are plagued with lag.

I don't understand people's fascination with PVP in MMOs. It boils down to a handful of scenarios -
1) A player killing another player 10 or more levels below them.
2) Groups of players killing single players.
3) Large groups of players killing smaller groups of players.
Neither of the above situations demands any skill whatsoever, even if you have Conan's snazzy and over hyped real time combo system in play. And those situations make up 95% of PvP encounters in MMOs. It's like this in any MMO, be it EVE, DAOC, WoW etc. ad infinitum.
MMOs weren't made for PvP. If you want PvP that takes some real skill - play an FPS or RTS. At least there you are guaranteed a level playing field in which skill, not stats, determine the victor.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

You have a terribly skewed vision of mmo pvp my friend. There is great pvp to be had in this genre.
Examples: daoc in its golden age, 8 person-groups roaming the frontiers and beating each other up. Hell, even the arena in WoW can yield some awesome moments (you're gonna get owned if you suck though).

Alright guys mini review of what I think so far. I ecountered a few bugs but they are minor nothing gamebreaking. Also for you who have nivdia & vista 64 bit there is a new beta driver release & my graphic problems went away its even more stable the the last. Anyway back to the game itself. Visually it's sooo yummy yeah it might not be as open as WOW but the whole package makes its really beautifull. The sounds are great can't complain much other then a odd heavy sound sometimes when im walking like it was led. I've had to restart a few times but it's expected & not as bad as I though. The character customization you can pretty much spend probably an hour trying to tweak one out so your character will be pretty unique & it can only mean they could release more then. I know some of you kind of talking about the instancing & all personaly I dont care cause it's a very fun game just from the single player portion so doing this with a few budies in instance im all for that. the button combo combat is fun I feel like i have to pay attention to what's going on around me & who im fighting. I appologize if I go back & forth but I think were it will be big groups will be realm vs realm & siege. So overall from what I played in the last hour I give this game a 8/10 in it's current state for fun factor & visual goodness.

Just played closed beta on tortuga & way smoother then open beta I can't freaking wait & even though the island is a little on the linear side it's actually to my liking & I can only imagine the rest. From what i've seen it's not open ended like wow as 2 big lan mass with no load times. I can see why they had to do it that way with the amount of detail they tried to put & it's pretty much the only way it can be a stable game. Anyway I've gone from 8.0/10 to 8.5/10 as i've seen improvement.
