I installed it a month ago (that beta thing), didn't really feel any improvements, so I deleted my disk and installed new fresh installed XP Laughing (note: I didn't delete it because of SP3, it was due anyway )

well for me this SP3 is shitty after the install i lost my network connection every 3h , and they added a extra p2p limit brake that must be disabled to get back the lost speed (connection limited to 10 , must hex hack it to 100 , they added new blocking procedure in they firewall and Windows Security system that must be disabled to get my network connection back to normal and you must disable the hidden 20% steal speed system that Winxp reserves for Updates)

well, BlueSkyz is right, i had to patch the connection limit again. (just use xp antispy for that)

but for the rest, i dont have the same problems. network connections running fine, i can max it out too. so far i havent discovered anything negative, but i havent had the time to play any games till now. may test that tomorrow.

might add that i use xp corporate and sp3 rtm

Did any of you guys notice any performance gains, as has been told by a lot of people on the interwebz? fps-gain in games? Very Happy

At least the connectionlimit can be tweaked in xp. With vista x64 it is not possible at all or without some crazy geek-stunt - but maybe i'm not up to date anymore Razz

You need a new uxtheme.dll if you install it, as for any improvements in anything compared to most updated SP2, I would say "nope". I didn't notice any difference at all.

I also think fisk should be unbanned.

from my side, i have not really anything more to say. i have no troubles (seems im lucky this time), but i dont notice any positive things either.

so i think, with the problems others have, just leave it be with SP2

think ur gonna need a crack for both of them versions. student has no activation whatsoever. its always seen as legit to M$ and no need for a crack.

Been usin ZWTiSO and it works perfectly. I think it's better than ETH0, since there's no need to manually nick the os.

both XP RTM and XP SP3 scored higher than 32-bit Vista SP1. XP RTM pulled off a score of 1001.4, while XP SP3 with 990.8 bested not only x86 Vista SP1 but also XP SP2 with just 891, the lowest score of the benchmark

http://keznews.com/4366_64-bit_Vista_SP1_Runs_Faster_than_32-bit_Vista_SP1_and_32-bit_XP_SP3!

theres also a hell of a lot more sites that confirm SP3 is faster than SP2..

i tried 3Dmark06 with a fresh install of SP2 and then installed SP3 and there was a significant improvement allthough i cant remember by how much

Now here's why I'm sceptical, "significant" "but I can't remember"... I think it's more of the same type of reaction as when VISTA-fans claimed VISTA was faster than XP. They wanted it to be, so it was more about what they felt than what really was there.

Yes, granted the difference between SP3 and SP2 is about 10% according to tools that measure performance. I did a similar test on my system (Intel Core 2 Duo 6850 with 4gigs of RAM and a u320 raid5 array for the system drive) using SiSoft SANDRA, and the before & after was marginally different, around 2-3% in SP3:s advantage. What I am criticising here is that people actually say they notice these 3-10% from using their computer. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the OS has been optimized, but to go from the most updated SP2 to SP3 and starting to say "OMG! It's faster" is just ridiculous. It's like those tools that say they notice a difference between 140fps in a game and 154fps ("OMG! IT'S SO MUCH SMOOTHER!11oneeleven").

Overall, no. As for copying files and various other functions, maybe. But now it's clear that XP SP3 is much faster than Vista SP1.

For me it's completely the opposite. Aside from slower initial boot time, and copying files from and to HDDs, Vista feels much faster when loading programs and the overall speed and productivity of the PC. I speak from my experience with Vista both on my laptop (now Server 2008) and the main PC, when I had it installed there.
