a concept of having an entire game of german subs in the pacific feels silly
they should have just had us play with the japanese
who had a damn pretty fleet, with submersible airplane pens and all

Too bad you don't dual-boot with XP. (unless you have a laptop, then it's ok)

yes, but not every day
not enough to warrant an entire game for it
it's like making an egyptian downhill skiing game

if it goes beyond that, it becomes an alternative history game
which is fine, if it results in something interesting and fun
but i would have thought being japanese for once would have been more interesting

actually i can't remember a single ww2 game where i play with the japanese
apart from strategy games or multiplayer FPS'

I think this has to do with the huge fan community still playing SHIII. A lot of peeps wanted another "German" subsim when SHIV came out, and there are some mod projects to bring it back to the Atlantic. So I think in order to please these guys the dev team did this. And the devs (EA Romania) are one of the most dedicated fan oriented bunch of devs I ever seen. Cheers guys!!!
And there where limited German operations in the Pacific, but really no fleet to speak of.

when will they allow us to control the battleships? i would rather control Yamato or HMS Hood than a pussy submarine.

lol
wrong game.

I wonder when that PT Boats game is gonna come out.
That should allow you to control battleships and stuff I think.
Or do you really only control PT boats in that game? That'd be kinda weird.
A DX10 benchmark has been around for months but haven't heard anything about the game lately.

but anyway.. I don't really care that the SH4 addon campaign isn't exactly realistic.
I'm just happy to be back in a german sub. Didn't like the US stuff in SH4.

I kinda liked how SH3 started so early in the war and I had to start playing in that really small uboat with only 2 torpedo tubes or something and only later the bigger more sophisticated ones became available to me.
Here you already start in a Type 9 or something which was a little disappointing.

There was one game that let you drive destroyer.

They removed the copy protection from the newer patches so you don't need a nocd anymore.

My prob was that I got really heavy in to modding it, and that took some time i tell you. I was doing some serious graphic modding and 3D modelling and stuff. It was like home from work and "mod" till bedtime, no joke!. Most bugs where fixed by us "the modding community" or by later patches. SH4 is a stunning game both graphically and game wise.
I think all in all I did over 50-60 different mods for SH4. All as authentic and historically correct as possible.

Wow nice shit man. People like you improve SH and it's community. I think I'll give SH4 a go. You have any recommendations for mods?

you are the pro in this, so ill ask you.

Im mostly into german uboots and the whole setting, i know there is an expansion pack for SH4 that adds german uboots for the indian ocean, is it worth skipping SH3? in case there are enough german setting mods for SH4.

If your looking to get into U-boats, stick with SH3. The U-boat expansion for SH4 is a joke. There are far more mods for SH3 and it's just a better game overall.

I definitely got the impression that even fully patched and modded, SH4 still wasn't as great as SH3 with GWX. Has this changed?

Not really. SH3 is still much better in my opinion, then SH4 is. Mostly because it's been out longer and has much better mods available for it.

I think I will concur this comment. I stopped playing SH4 before this expansion came out. But i will say this, if you like beautiful graphics and can reconsider playing the US campaign in the pacific go for SH4, if you are a hard core "Uboot" guy play SH3. Personally I think both campaigns have their charms. You just have to read up a bit on the Pacific war and you will get right in to it. That's what happened to me anyway.

I have been out of that game for almost 1 year now. If you go to Subsim.com and check the sticky posts for mods I am sure you will hit some that you will like.

bought SH4 a few weeks ago.

How the hell do you complete those photograph missions?
I snuck all the way into the harbor where it had the star with the camera marked but the icon never unlocked for me to take a photo.
Do you not go to the mark on the map to take the picture?

So even if its to take a pic of a harbor, all you do is target one of the boats in the harbor to snap the pic? I swear i tried that but never saw the icon unlock.
I thought maybe I wasn't close enough even though i was at the star map icon where it shows you to go to take the pic.

The mission is not to take picture of the harbor, but RECON the harbor, so in other words, see what's there. And what more obvious could be there but ships? Smile

Lock on to them one by one and take those pics until you are not able to take any more. If the icon is not lit up any more, you're done.
