we get mould in the uk.
i had quite alot of mould in a downstairs bedroom behind some wardrobes but it was just the kind that looks like salt crystals on the walls, fucking stinks though.
just got a bottle of mould remover sprayed the wall , whiped it down and painted over it, its not came back since.
had some mould that was black in colour and quite thick behind the fridge thanks to a leak under the bath that made all the kitchen wall damp.
got rid of that my self to and it hasnt been back, fuck ripping walls out unless its toxic...
dont just paint over mould though it will eat the paint.
btw if you do try to sort it your self, dont breath in mould spores! , hover the area stupidly well and hope you get all the spores, keep rooms well ventilated always and you shouldnt get mould anyway

Mould can also be caused by cracks in the walls or leaks near the effected area. There are wall treatments that you can apply to the outside of your house which helps to fix the problem, but sometimes you just have to do the building work to keep it from coming back.

Haven't encountered it around here. I think it only exists in wooden houses, and we don't have much of them around here. Almost all of the buildings around here are built from cement.
Though I'm not sure it's because of the wood.
Anyone knows for certain why does mold appear?

Mould can be a real killer. So always make shure that when you're DIY'ing that you prevent moisture from gettiing in cracks or area's that are hard to reach (in bitween walls or ceilings)
