it shows that the combat system has been in one of the high seats, imo very well done and executed system.
very responsive, not having any lag/delays.
and last but not least, really fun, fresh.
fun when taking on 6-10 mobs at once, with a friend or two. butchering them down.

Yes so far i understand there is a 10% chance of pulling off a "fatality" move.

My review on things:
For two weeks ago when I was in the technical beta the game was horrible unoptimized. I saw Vanguard all over again and had just alittle faith they would pull this off. I mean, two weeks before the release and it was so badly unoptimized that you (no matter system) got around 2-10 fps with more then 2 persons on screen.
Ok, they said it was a old beta client, they said it was the debugger etc. (yeah yeah, we heard that before).
I got into the real beta and the game was "somewhat" better". Still I had my doubts. I have by no means a good and freash system. So I thought, maybe I will have to jump this game until I get a new computer....
BUT, one week before release they put out the first magical patch and everything got ALOT better. They continued to patch the beta nearly every day..or more then once every day until release date and now the game just rocks. Not only the fps are way up, they polished the graphics, solved out bugs and progressed the game more then some companies do in 1 year after release. Mind you I still play in the beta, but it is said that the rentail version are even more smooth.
I have a P4 3.2, ATI Radeon x1650 and 1,5 RAM. So my system are really old. But I get about 20 fps now, it can drop to 15 sometimes or even 10 if there's alot going on on screen. But I'd say this game is greatly optimized now.
Gameplay:
At first I thought the fightingsystem was not really "that" freash. Felt more like hammering the buttons in another way then in other MMOs....still hammering. You have the directional attacks and skill attacks. So you push a skill attack and then make a key kombination of the directional attacks to pull the skill attack off. At first it's just one key, but later on you get to string together key kombinations and if you fail, you fail to make the attack. On top if this, you're never locked on to a target so you can swing and hit many target at once. I managed to decapitat 3 pirates at once one time Also you can dodge with dubble taping the directional keys and block using X. So the fightingsystem grows on you thruout the game. Not that freash in the begining, but once you get up a few levels it gets skillbased. I can imagine in PVP if you do not managed to pull of that combo because of stress..it will be very much the matter if you live or die.
As for the world, up until level 20 you're going on more like a singleplayer adventure. Still you can talk to other people and also do some quests with them. The world is small and not much to explore. But after 20 it opens up, still the game is made into zones and not seamless like Wow for example. But it doesn't matter, the zones are rather big and feels very alive. I like how they used voiceactors which make it feels very proffesional and you really get into your "destiny quest".
The graphics looks great I think. Okay my system sucks...but I like the artwork. I'm not talking about nipples and nude women now. But the game graphics feel realistic..I mean compared to wow for example. Mind you, I still like the art direction in wow too. Just this is different.
The only bad things I see about this game are that to take full advantage out of the gfx you'll need a really good computer. I've yet to see pvp, which I can suspect can be laggy with my system. Also the instancing could be something people wouldn't like. I do not mind it that much actually, it's not like guildwars where you're all alone outside the cities. Not sure how many people one zone can contain, but it is enough to make it feel alive. The zoning itself could be something to not like either. I can see that, and agree to some point. But too me it's not a big of a deal, the loading times are just a few sec.
But one shouldn't expect a totally new and revolutionary typ of MMO-game. It still follows many things that make a MMO a MMO. If you do not like MMOs you won't like this either I suspect. But if you like a little new take on the genre I'd say you could try AOC out.

DX10 is available. It still only uses SM3.0, though.

pulled off a great fatality with a club. Quick sweep to the kneecaps brings this boss to his knees, then a rather nasty 3 smacks to the top of the skull.

The option has been there for a long time in beta also and it is does absolutly nothing until they implement it.

Yeah the combat is soo much more fun the other mmo's. By the way dont play when your to drunk I learned the hard way last night hahaha. Freaking died like 5 times in a row at one point cause I was uber shit faced. But man it was fun. No bad hang overs this morning. FYI Dx10 is in the game now this is a final product not beta. Just cause it doesn't use SM 4.0 does not mean it ain't using DX10 they might be only using certain aspects.

Yah, the launch so far has been perfect, with the exception of the start delay. By far the best launch of any MMORPG I've seen. Scheduled downtime should be over in a few minutes, although I'd not be surprised if it was extended, as these things often are.

the SP part is INSTANCED. you still have to logon to a server to complete these quests. they are like singleplayer book chapters in lotro.
