Yes, it's legit.
It is my favourite movie ever, and I hope so badly that they dont fuck the sequal up. Not sure yet how its gonna work but here is the info..
Film name - S.Darko.
Plot
S. Darko takes place in 1995, seven years after the original film. It follows Donnie Darko's younger sister, Samantha, who, in the wake of his death, has found herself at age 17 with a broken family, mired in feelings of insignificance.[2] When she and her best friend Corey are plagued by bizarre visions, they set off on a road trip to Los Angeles.
Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly is not involved with the film in any capacity. Fox has already bought the North American distribution rights.[4]
Shooting begins May 18th.

OMG There only a few movies in all of history where those who participate in a sequel should be be hung for being little money grabbing whores. Donnie Darko is one of them. How could it even be close to being what the original was? Not only was it a one-of-kind cult movie taken at face value but then the whole synchromystical link to 9-11. This is far worse then an exorcist or blair which sequel.

great dialog ('oh that rash is gettin narly man..') , great script (apparently anyone can turn back time)
acting was bad , shitty editing , direction was kinda bad... ah fuck it
it sucked .
and they made Donnie Darko with the same money ..

I'm pretty sure that Kelly was involved. Infact, he co-wrote it.
Anyway, I'm even more sure that the film will be crap.
