I think it's both. Coders trying desperately to release as fast as possible, while protection gets more sophisticated.
IGN review looks really good, definitely worth a try.

having never played a "LEGO" game before, can someone tell me about the kind of gameplay to expect? is it a kiddie game with no real challenge for example?

Its like a Tomb Raider with a more wide camera view. Try it, its hard to not like it.

RELOADED can only go the VM route with securom so yeah

Anyone managed to get bloody antialiasing working? I can't seem to do it.
