Sometimes system restore files themselves get infected though I don't know how this virus works. You might try deleting your system restore save points (all of them), turning off system restore, scanning/cleaning your system with your specific anti-virus program in that order. If all remains clean, then you could turn on system restore back again.

If everything fails, try a repair of your installation (assuming this is xp we're talking about) using the install disk. It's not a repair from scratch but just your system files while your data files are left intact.

Check up your start-up programs. You might find something there.

msconfig.exe

I mean no offense, but if you were lame enough to get screwed by a virus, just reinstall windows.

Your computer will never be the same after fucking it enough to get rid of a virus. That and nothing beats the fresh feeling of windows.

Seems it was something to do with spybot s&d blocking it being permanantly removed with its resident registry protection.
Problem solved Smile

Why didn't you say you had shitty Spybot installed in the first place ? That proggy was good a few years ago, but now ...

P.S.: I knew Kaspersky couldn't screw up !
