I can;t compare to 1 as I never played it but I thought KOTOR 2 was an excellent game.

KOTOR was tremendously overrated... corny story, boring dialogues, mediocre combat(better than ME though). Well is only my opinion but the games world need more talented scriptwriters...

No thanks Bioware. Mass Effect was good enough, work on something else.

I felt there was a huge difference. KOTOR2 was rushed, buggy and lacked the overall quality from the previous one.
The difference between the KOTOR-games reminds me of the difference qualitywise between cod1, 2, 4 vs cod3.
Different development studios and so the quality got a huge blow in both cases.
Quick reply by me btw. |
I can only speak of my own experience but I never once felt the game was rushed, I'm not sure what triggered that response for you but I didn't get that vibe from playing the game. It wasn't as polished perhaps, and there was certainly a lot of talk of bugs if I remember rightly but again I never (knowingly) experienced any to spoil my enjoyment.
Still I wasn't saying it was as good as the original, just that I'm perplexed at the amount of negativity it gets in comparison - I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It's subjective. KOTOR's combat was more direct, with Mass Effect I feel like the exploration and combat gets in the way of the meat of the game - which after all is the dialogue. Still, it would be boring otherwise so I can see why they went this route, just I don't think it's all that fun - more tiresome than anything.

There was some content cut off from KOTOR2, the files are mostly there but missing the code that would connect them to the game. Theres project going on to restore the files (Been going on for long time no idea if they will ever manage to finish it), the folks who are doing it are called Team Gizka

The restoration project is already in the closed beta stage. They should be done with it in a month or rwo.

Yeah I know, check the first page of this bumped thread
Quote: | Maybe my opinion is so different because I never even once thought to myself it was missing something (although it's impossible in any thread relating to the game not to know about the cuts). Also; most games involve cuts, so do films, books and other media - it's kind of part and parcel of the process and it didn't destroy the game so I really don't see why people harp on about it so much?
[...] and I'm saying it had never occured to me whilst playing it that this stuff was cut. It's absence wasn't felt in my case and I believe people are getting the panties in a twist simply because they know, rather than through any fault of the game itself - but that's just based on my own experience. |

In my opinion, even though KOTOR 2 was missing a lot of its content, it has a deeper and darker story.

KOTOR1 was more polished, but it had the classic Bioware dullness. It felt finished, and was executed well, but it's oh-so stereotypical and easy to predict.
KOTOR2 was far, far from perfect, but I will always take a bugged but interesting game over a polished but flat game. KOTOR2 was simply a lot more interesting, and with a lot better writing.
Gameplay wise both of them suck the big one.

Anyone but the simplest and youngest of people would chose K2's story over K1. K1 was predictable, typical good guys vs bad guys. adventure like story with one dimension al characters.
K2 was more realistic, dark and grittier, and, here comes the most important one, believable characters and motives. The very first(perhaps only) game, where I ever cared about the characters. Excellently made.
They were both better than Mass Effect, which in fact is a console port originally created for the fncktarded, and it shows. No real choices, especially not dialog choices, very little humor.
completely one sided, boring characters, much like a Hollywood action flick.
And combat was very easy in ME, I started veteran, with no knowledge of the game, no aim assistance, and I practically soloed it... with a pistol. Kotors had more tactics.
K2>K1>>ME
Shame on you bioware, to go from the wonderful complexities of Baldur's Gate to shallow depths of satisfying the dumb gamers.
I wish consoles vanished.

Oh god it's going to be an MMORPG. I'm going to throw up now, and lament the time singleplayer story-driven games were the norm.

You do realize that Lucas Arts has a say in this also right? They are funding the project, its not just EA. Why do you think they fired some of their employees awhile ago? To fund this project. Plus you just don't see the point of creating a KOTOR mmorpg, it will be a lot better than SWG because sony can't ruin it!

I hate MMO's since they're all based on getting people hooked on level-crunching. The rest is just to make it look pretty and welcoming, hiding the fact that the "rpg"-components are cynically aimed towards getting people addicted to the level-crunching that drives the games.
