downloading and watching 720 and 1080 rips can be a great experience, but backuping it is quite the opposite, some 720 rips may even be burn into a normal 4.37 GB DVD, but most $100 million blockbusters with out of this world special effects doens't even fit into a double layer DVD, and since all the HD release groups seem to release the title into a single file, I was wondering if is there any software avaiable to quickly split this 10 and 20 GB files into 2, 3 or more parts to fit them into DVD's it seems that virtual Dub won't do the trick since it can't even recognize the .mkv file type.
is there anything that can do the trick?

MKVToolnix. Then you set the size after which to split and it works well.
