So did i hope. but people have already asked many times at the forum when are they going to increase frame rate with community patches. I have played this game first time with 7800GTX512Mb SLI then 8600GTS SLI and now 9800GTX. Bad performance with every setup. Btw. just played 10 minutes, and got memory allocation error |
so its still pretty bad? im running 2.5 ghz, 4 gb ram and 8800 250mb. shouldnt that be good enough?

Well i always liked the game but hated the performance part. It wont run smooth with that setup i think. Someone said at the forums back then when 8800GTX cards came to market that it runs pretty good with 8800SLI setup but i had never pleasure to try those cards. I KNOW the game wont run good with 7800GTX SLI or 8600GTS SLI. |
thanx for the info bud

The game usually runs pretty well but performance can drop now and then due to how the game engine works, especially the constant streaming of new areas as you move trough the game world.
(Still I usually have pretty good framerate though I have also gone trough the INI file thoroughly.)

Just heard about the newest patch, so I decided to reinstall and try playing again. Its still not perfect, but it does now run tolerably on medium settings. It still hiccups every once in awhile, but its far from the lagfest it used to be. I'm actually quite a ways through the game after three happy days playing.
Only installed the 1.6 Community Patch, and tweaked the ini cache settings slightly
Im running XP Pro with P4 3.4, 2GB ram, Radeon 850XT (256) btw

Did you try the ini tweaks? It ran great on my X1950pro with visual tweaks. The performance tweaks really help alot.

If you have to use INI tweaks and the game doesn't look like Crysis, then it's shit and not worth touching.

Why should an RPG look like Crysis? Or was that sarcasm?

It was my opinion of the game's optimization.
And where did I say an RPG should look like Crysis?

OK, perhaps some people here have different standards of "running acceptably". For me (Quad 6600, 8600GTS) it runs quite well on "high" setting. Well, it's perhaps around 25-30 FPS with occasional pauses when new areas are streaming in the background... But for me it's enough to enjoy the game.

The standards come from Oblivion, which uses the same engine. There's no excuse to have one run smooth while the other like shit.

Get your facts straight.. Gothic3 uses Genome Engine while Oblivion uses Gamebryo.. Both uses Speedtree though, but thats just for the folliage.
I'd really like to see some other developer change the "standard" (if you can call it that). Oblivion has both ugly pop-ups (no matter how much you tweak it) + it halts for 1-2 sec every now and then to load in new areas.. But sure Gothic3 was much worse, in fact i found the engine so bad that i didnt even care to play it even though im a huge Gothic1-2 fan..

Ooops, don't know why I got the impression they both used Gamebryo... Oh well, so the engine itself sucks then.
More seriously, Oblivion had pop ups because it had a console release as well. As for that "standard" (using pop ups to achieve better performance), no one can change it. It's there for a reason.

I'm confused (easily done) Was this thread ressurected from the dead, because patch 1.7 is out? or simply to chat about the already existing 1.6? As I cant find 1.7 anywhere ...

Gothic 3's engine might run like shit, but it's definitely one of the most capable ones when it comes to creating an organic and beautiful world.

Organic?
There wasn't anything organic about it at all.
But it was fun, and it was big, and it was seamless, and it should have been what Oblivion strove to be.
Then I run into a pack of boars.
This game sucks.

It runs decent on my computer, but what completely kills it is the 1.5-2 minutes it takes to load a savegame considering that you die relatively often.

Spellbound is working on Gothic 4 and the initial screens should be in the Gothic 4 thread somewhere on these forums.
Piranha Bytes who did the previous Gothic games are busy with "RPB" which is kinda like Gothic but they split with Jowood and thus lost the license to the Gothic name so they started with this instead albeit a while ago Jowood and Piranha came to terms and are now together again.
No one really knows who is developing this expansion/prequel but I guess it might be a internal Jowood studio.

There will be also a Gothic 3 add-on released before Christmas. They promise to fix the engine, change combat (was too dumbed down) and give 20 hrs of gameplay. Considering that i put more than 20 in Gothic 3 and I'm nowhere near 30 percent complete thats pretty short.
Anyway, I recommend anyone to try GOthic 3 with latest patch. Yes, you need a good PC, and yes, combat kind of sucks (too easy, to simple compared to previous games) but game looks marvelous with all effects on and its HUGE, much larger than Gothic 1 or 2 (even with Night of Raven addon). Storyline is good also and you have a plenty of real gameplay choices. I enjoy it a lot. I'm happy they are still going to make G3 addon and Gothic 4.

I'm pretty sure you are actually talking about "Forsaken Gods" I think as it will have those changes and be around 15- 20 hours long. (Unsure if that's only for the main quest though.)
Albeit I don't know if it will be a "addon" as such as it will require Gothic 3 and update it or if it will be a stand-alone expansion.
(All I know is that it's the prequel to Gothic 4 bridging the story and events between it and Gothic 3.)

Who is working on this prequel? Spellbound or PB? I've read some time ago PB and Jowood were friends again.
